Another First Fursuit
« on: February 07, 2011, 15:51:36 »
My own first effort at a head.
a plastic canvas frame with foam overlayed, some basic work done in shaping, ears not yet attached and debating on adding padding for more prominant cheak bones and a wider shape.
Ohh, and ignore the time stamps. I forgot to reset the date in the camera so it all got tagged as 2008

Ahh, so many mistakes have been made.
I could start over, I have enough materials to spare It wouldn't cost much.
I have already redone parts two or three times.
Sigh.
Decisions. Decisions.
One things is for sure, the snout is too small for a fan and I am having trouble with the jaw.
The whole face probably should have been lifted more forward to give better room for the eyes, and the forehead pushes forward in an odd way...
Well, on the bright side, if I make loads of mistakes now I will have a lot to learn from!
By the end of one fursuit I may have made every mistake conceivably possible XD
And I can't even find a good source of fur that doesn't come from America with a delivery charge that adds 50% the cost of the actual fur.
And if anyone knows where to get nice affordable wigs, prefferably white and brown, do let me know.
I could go with the real cheap fur available in the local fabric shop (bright yellow and orange) which would save enough money that I could almost certaqinly have a new fursuit ready for next year :D
Assuming I can afford to go again >.<
Which would be a maybe after a new suit >.>
I have made my statement and I stand buy it, but I could be wrong!

*'I could go with the real cheap fur available in the local fabric shop (bright yellow and orange)'*

if you do this we'll match.  ;D

as for wigs, I've got myself one coming of e-bay, cost about 7 quid posted for a long dark red Goth wig.

there's quite a few colours and good deals, if you dont mind trawling through the rubbish/expensive stuff.

yes, actualy I was looking at the woollenmills site, they have a shop in town.
They sell polyester and 100% rayon fur fabrics in a range of colours as well as animal prints.
the prints are no good to me, but the basic colours may work.
Assuming I can get one that doesnt look luminous.
Next time I am in town I shall be asking about what range they have.
After working out what could potencialy go wrong from choosing either one and preparing for that as well as possable in advance

It amuses me that one is describedc as good for animal suits and tghe other toy animalsn and stage costumes.
what worries me is they don't list prices for any of these on their site. Never a good sign :D
On the bright side, they don't tend to charge as high a price as some craft shops.

the fur on my suit is a bit bright, so i'll stand out abit.
but they were the only colours i could find that closely matched Minoky's colouring (plus its 4quid a square yard).

oh sure, they look grand there, but the material used isnt the best :P
it has some big bald spots and you can see the mesh underbeath particularly around the fingers.
ohh well, first efforts dont need to be perfect no?
hehe. there is always next year, and now I actualy know how to do paws that fit!
