hey all, Minokyoko (mino for short) here from the sheffield area.
ive been into furry/anthro artwork since 2000 and have only recently discovered my fursona (bout 3 month ago)
i'm currently saving up to go to confuzzled 2011, i've seen the videos on youtube and looks like loads of fun.
my only concern is it'll be my first convention ever, so don't really know what to expect, plus i'm currentlt building my first partial fursuit ever for next years con too.
-
Expect the unexpected, some local distortions in space/time owing to convention effects on temporal mechanics, fursuits, bemused reactions of the public, dancing, more fursuits, artwork, random meetings, long cat and well.... just attend and you'll experience the rest.
Oh and me, I will be there again.
-
just about got my suit head finished, just need to make the eyes, then its onto the tail.
just about got enough saved to get my ticket, next two weeks should do it.
-
Excellent! Don't forget to plan your journey in advance too. Directions are on the main Confuzzled website to the hotel, there are plenty of local buses to and from Manchester City and trains are not that bad either. Although I do prefer flying, it's a real treat and isn't that bad compared to the train.
-
i'll be getting the train from sheffield, then bus to venue, when i've got my money together, im getting my ticket to the con, then its time to save up some spending money.
-
Book your train tickets about 2 months in advance to get the best deals. As already stated its quite and easy trip form the station with bus, alternatively you never know who you might be friends with by then and who might be driving from near you anyway. There are certainly a good few driving from your neck of the woods.
Also welcome and I hope your first con is a good one.
-
the way things are going at the moment i may have a car by then.
-
just hi and hugz from huskie
-
Cars are good, but I prefer to let someonelse do the driving before and after a convention. Especially if you volunteer you can be doing a lot more activity.
-
well what a day, was going to be picking up a car today, but just before i left the house i got a phone call off the guy i was getting it off.
the street he lives on is still covered in snow/ice and this morning a bin lorry managed to hit his car and the one i was gonna buy.
so no car for me again, how come when ever i find a decent car at a good price, something happens that stops me getting it.
-
There are plenty more cars out there and I'm sure this one will be repaired soon enough. Or you could always ask them for a discount and do it yourself.
-
im going for the easier option and having my mums car, just got to insure it.
-
That is the part I find almost as expensive as some cars to get. Stupid cost!
-
i've decided to get the train to manchester, which will be easier than driving.
Just wondered if theres anyone going from the worksop/sheffield area going.
-
I'm travelling from down in London so not likely to pass that way. I ecpect though when we get closer to the convention you will find a lot more people making plans.
-
woohoo just got con-FUR-mation that the payment for my ticket/room upgrade has been recieved.
i now have a sponsors ticket and a twin room (sharing with lost cause).
and i'll be paying for my train tickets this weekend, once thats done all i need to do is save up some spending/food/beer money now.
and my partial in in its final stages of completion, just a few more stripes to paint on and a little trimming on the mouth left to do.
-
The beer money is indeed important!
-
i'm really looking forward to this con, but at the same time i'm a bit nervous about wearing my fursuit in public,
i've done quite a few civil war re-enactments over the years, but i'm more nervous about this than any re-enactment i've done before, dont know why.

Trust me, the butterflies soon dissipate once you step out in costume. My first time out was at AnthroCon in Pittsburgh, although I had a handler with me (person who spots obstacles, hazards and photo opportunities (mostly the latter in my case ^_^) ahems,) It was a case of short walk to elevator, down to a lobby, shaking like a leaf, then the doors open, you step out and almost instantly get this rush of Whoohoo and all is great, and with a few moments I am posing for photos for members of the public and other con-goers alike :)
Just remember it is always a lot better with other people around in the same situation.
-
After the first time all you want to do is play and mess around with people. I was hooked after my first walk around :D
-
i tried the full partial on with the trousers/shirt i'll be wearing and decided to walk up and down the back garden a couple times to get a feel for it, only thing i can say is i cant wait till may.
i had a little trouble walking in the feet, just got to remember to point my feet outwards a bit more than usual.
i'm hoping this con will help me get over my shyness too.
-
I'd advise you to watch out for stairs, they can be very tricky if they are narrow steps. Practice makes perfect when suiting too :)
-
i'll try some stairs tomorrow, if i cant manage it i can allways take the footpaws off to get up/down stairs.
-
I can't speak from someone who is a fursuiter but at my first job many years ago I did have to dress up once in a blue moon as the companies mascot, a big white and black spotted dog called Specky! The feet where huge but it doesn't take long to get used to, and you'll be running around hugging all in no time!
If not I'm more than happy to lend a hand ;)
-
after the con, i've decided minoky isnt the fursona for me.
i've had another fursona in the back of my head for aslong as minoky, now its time to let him loose, so as of now i'm Stereo Fox.
