Discussion / Fursuiting around Resorts World
« on: October 25, 2015, 00:25:06 »
With the new Resorts World place opposite the hotel opening this week, I'm wondering whether the con staff are going to see if we'll be allowed to fursuit around there or not at next year's con.

Discussion / Smoking outside the entrance
« on: May 25, 2015, 03:07:47 »
I know I'm still at the con but I feel like I have to comment on this now because the situation tonight realy was bad. Large crowds of people smoking outside the entrance, the revolving doors wide open, the lobby really did fill with the smell of smoke and it wasn't pleasant. I was fursiting in the lobby and the smoke got right inside my suit head as soon as I walked in and it wasn't pleasant, and even sitting in the bar out of suit I could smell it in the air.

As it had already been tweeted this morning asking people not to smoke there (as well as one about not using e-cigs inside which seems to have been similarly ignored), but to use the areas outside the NEC & Health Club entrances, it made me feel even more annoyed that it's being ignored. Surely it's not unreasonable to ask people to smoke there, and not too hard for the smokers to oblige? It's not as if they'e being told not to smoke, just to do it where it's not going to affect people.

There are the things for stubbing out cigarettes at the far edges outside the entrance, and I imagine under normal circumstances at the hotel there's only a couple of people smoking there and it's not really an issue, but during this con there's been large crowds of people there, and big clouds of smoke hanging over hat you've had to walk through and has been getting sucked into the lobby when the door's open. Maybe removing the ashrays there during the con would help discourage people smoking there. But then people have been smoking in front of the "don't smoke in front of the entrance" sign anyway regardless.

Sorry that I'm posting this, and I have already tweeted about it to the CF twitter accounts, it's just that I'm really sensitive to smoke, people have been asked not to smoke there, it was particularly bad tonight and it really made my fursuiting unpleasant due to the smoke gathering in my head. I just need to get it off my chest... and hope that it won't be like it tomorrow night.

Discussion / Smoking outside the hotel entrance
« on: May 26, 2014, 16:29:40 »
I'm not sure if I can make it  to the feedback session, so I'm going to post this here. Outside the hotel entrance, there's a sign asking people not to smoke there, and use the smoking shelter (which is near the entrance to the health club), but throughout the whole con there's been crowds of people smoking there, plenty of them right next to the sign. In some cases it's been unpleasant, with smoke coming back into the lobby- particularly when they've left the revolving door wide open- and going outside in fursuit and your head fills up with clouds of smoke. The sign's there stating the hotel's policy that they don't want people smoking there, so I'd personally like to know both why so many attendees have ignored it, and neither the con or hotel staff seem to have made any effort to enforce it.

Feedback / Sponsor counter
« on: October 31, 2013, 22:16:06 »
I've been thinking, with one of this years aims involving getting 300 sponsors, there should be a counter somewhere on the website telling us how many sponsors have signed up so far- it lets us keep track of how we are from the goal, and might also encourage people to sponsor who otherwise wouldn't have!

I decided to start this thread so that we can leave our appreciation towards the Hinckley Island Hotel and their staff. We're really sad to be leaving.

Something I've found myself thinking about- last week on UKFur, someone mentioned that their dad was accompanying them to CF, and one person's advice was "don't take him into the auction" as well as some discussion about when a couple of old ladies walked in just as some porn came up on the big screen. I'm just wondering how things are going to be handled this year. As I've frustratingly had to miss the auction the past 2 years, just wondering if it will be safe to come in this year (is the adult stuff going to be either censored or held until the end), or is it better advised for me to avoid it again?

Off-Topic / What's going on with UKFur?
« on: September 19, 2011, 12:59:14 »
Can't really think of anywhere else to post this... UKFur's been down for the past 2 days, just showing a database error, the site owners haven't fixed it or put up some sort of explanatory page of what's happening so I'm just wondering if anyone here knows the story of what's going off and when the site's likely to be back online?

Discussion / Reg number lottery!
« on: September 14, 2011, 23:45:08 »
With reg opening only 20 hours away, I thought I'd start a thread for us to post what badge numbers we get after we register, and try and see who gets the lowest. The winner gets... a nice warm, fuzzy feeling inside. Unless it's me, then I get a £10,000 cheque and a holiday to the Bahamas :D

In fact we can post previous years too- I was 36 in 2010 and 138 this year.

A lot of furries themselves only create their fursonas after joining the fandom, but I'm wondering just how many people considered themselves a particular animal before joining the fandom?

Personally, I've had what is now my fursona for 9 years. I don't really know how or why, just that I started imagining myself as being a cartoon dog, and it felt completely right in a way I've never really been able to explain to myself. I felt happier thinking of myself this way, and over the years I become very attatched to this cartoon dog side of me, before I'd even had a clue what the words "anthro" and "furry" meant.

Even then, the idea of cartoon animals has always appealed to me. Even before the dog thing I'd imagined myself as numerous others, fantasised about living in a world occupied with cartoon animals rather than people. They've always spoken to me in a way that people never can, and I always found myself identifying with such characters better. Anything with a cartoon animal in it seems to catch my attention, whereas I pretty much couldn't care less about humans (both real and animated).

So, basically, it's been something that's been very important to me long before I knew what the fandom was. In fact I was quite suprised to stumble accross the fandom, as I'd never suspected such a thing existed and always thought I was alone in feeling the way I do...

Introduce Yourself / New dog here!
« on: July 05, 2009, 14:54:59 »
Hi there! I'm a 23 year old dog, who's reasonably new to the fandom. Went to my first meet last week, and am hoping to make CF 2010 my first convention- I'm really looking forward to it! As far as I'm aware, I'm the fur who lives nearest to Sherwood Forest. Not sure if that's really relevant unless you like cartoon foxes as much as I do! Anyway- I hope to see you guys there in May!
