I wouldn't say it even has to be the shelter- even the picnic tables that were outside the miller's bar are far enough from the entrance to not really be an issue.

if they didn't want us to smoke there, then why have ashtrays there?

But were they actually there to be intended as ashtrays, or were they just intended to be bins, but happened to have ashtrays on top of them? I see loads of bins like that in all sorts of places, inside and out, in places where you both can and can't smoke, they just seem to be a standard sort of bin you find in public places.

I was going to come to the feedback session, but it happened to be held at the sort of time in the afternoon I end up crashing and needing to go to the room for a nap!

Discussion / Smoking outside the hotel entrance

I'm not sure if I can make it  to the feedback session, so I'm going to post this here. Outside the hotel entrance, there's a sign asking people not to smoke there, and use the smoking shelter (which is near the entrance to the health club), but throughout the whole con there's been crowds of people smoking there, plenty of them right next to the sign. In some cases it's been unpleasant, with smoke coming back into the lobby- particularly when they've left the revolving door wide open- and going outside in fursuit and your head fills up with clouds of smoke. The sign's there stating the hotel's policy that they don't want people smoking there, so I'd personally like to know both why so many attendees have ignored it, and neither the con or hotel staff seem to have made any effort to enforce it.

I saw a photo from this year's FWA of a door after someone had taken off the sign they'd stuck to it using tape- some people are complete idiots.

When they first added it to the attendee list, the GOH's name was visible, but the following morning it had gone. I won't spill the name though, the staff obviously don't want to revealed yet, so I'll keep it to myself! Unless of course that briefly visible name was a fake red herring :P

I'd have thought the crew who've gone sponsor would count towards the 300, surely?

Does anyone know how far we are off the magic 200 number? Can't be far now, seeing as we passed 150 over a week ago!

I've been thinking, with one of this years aims involving getting 300 sponsors, there should be a counter somewhere on the website telling us how many sponsors have signed up so far- it lets us keep track of how we are from the goal, and might also encourage people to sponsor who otherwise wouldn't have!

Just wondering, what sort of snacks and drinks are available in the executive lounge?

Sounds a bit like how the lounge at EF is.

I decided to start this thread so that we can leave our appreciation towards the Hinckley Island Hotel and their staff. We're really sad to be leaving.

Feedback / Re: 2013 Shirt design
« on: June 04, 2013, 23:21:25 »
I personally don't get the people who say they like the fact "it's not obviously about the con". Isn't the whole point of a con shirt to be about the con? If you just want a shirt showing an abstract picture of a forest on a moonlit night, there's a ton of them on amazon! If a shirt that was "obviously" about Confuzzled is doomed to stay in your wardrobes, then why would you buy it?

Most people I know felt the same as me. Surely when you go to a furrycon, the usual thing is a toony shirt with the name of the con emblazened on it- if you don't like it, nobody's making you buy it. I certainly much prefer a shirt which actually says something about the con it came from, you can get shirts with nightime treescapes on from lots of places, I like con shirts to be more unique. As people have said, if you don't want to be asked awkward questions about what "Confuzzled" is, then don't wear your shirt in any of those situations!
