Announcements / Forum Closure
« on: February 09, 2017, 09:47:38 »
Due to dwindling usage over the past few years and an unmanageable increase in the workload required by our volunteer staff in order to moderate and evict spammers (despite implementation of many technical measures) we have made the tough decision to close the ConFuzzled forum.

Creation of new forum users and posting of new threads or replies will no longer be possible, however the existing content will be preserved as an online archive for the foreseeable future.

There is an active forum community over at UKFur (https://forum.ukfur.org/forum/93-confuzzled/) where you can find lots of ongoing discussion about the convention, find potential roomshare partners or find a travelling buddy.

You can also keep up to date on all ConFuzzled news by following us on Twitter (@cfconvention), checking out our website (www.confuzzled.org.uk) or by subscribing to our newsletter.

We will soon also be carrying out a survey about the ways through which you would prefer to receive information about the convention - keep watch on the locations above for when this comes out and let us know!

Best Regards,
The ConFuzzled Management Team

I'm afraid as SFW points out, avoiding customs duty isn't something we can support I'm afraid, so I'll have to lock this topic.

Discussion / Re: Quick question?
« on: April 18, 2016, 23:12:27 »
We have no objection to advertising of other events, including flyers, however please be aware of where these are being left - we don't want to leave litter all over the hotel! Having them on someone's table in the dealer's den is definitely no problem at all.

Hi!

The demand for this event was phenomenal and far exceeded our predictions based on the survey we sent out a month or so ago. We are investigating what options there are to make more spaces available, however there are many factors to this, most of which are outside of our control.  Please keep an eye on our Twitter account for more information when it becomes available.

Discussion / Re: Smoking outside the entrance
« on: May 28, 2015, 21:57:31 »
Hello,

I'd just like to let you all know that we are looking into what solutions we can put in place to provide a comfortable area for those who wish to smoke outside which is a short distance away from the entrance, yet provides sufficient cover and shelter.  I can't say at the moment what form this might take, but we want to find something which is amicable to everyone.

Please try and keep the comments constructive, it is much more useful for us to hear your suggestions on what we can do to improve the situation for everyone. We would like to find a solution which ideally doesn't significantly disadvantage either the smokers or non-smokers.

As an aside, on the subject of marquees, if the structure has more than 50% of the sides enclosed, that is still covered by the smoking regulations, so it's actually not possible to provide a full marquee, but we can certainly look into something which has walls on two sides.

Please note, this discussion was regarding 2013 convention!

Announcements / Website Security Update
« on: October 16, 2014, 22:28:59 »
You may have seen in the media recently that a weakness has been discovered in one of the older technologies (SSL version 3) used to protect data in transit between web browsers and web servers. We will be following in the footsteps of major internet entities such as Twitter, CloudFlare and Akamai and will disable SSLv3 connections to our secure websites overnight tonight. This means that some very old web browsers which do not support more recent encryption technology may fail to connect to our servers using addresses starting with HTTPS. Our research suggest that this will only affect people using Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6 and this makes up an extremely small proportion of the internet population, so we hope this does not affect any of you, however ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of our attendees' personal data when being transmitted to our servers is of the utmost importance.

We apologise if this should cause you any inconvenience.

Would this be something along the "4D" kinda thing? If so that would be really cool.

I'm not 100% sure we have a pair of rooms that would fit the requirement - would one bigger room with some kind of partition do the job?

Feedback / Re: CFZ Gallery thumbnails
« on: June 13, 2014, 18:38:23 »
Hi,

This would be possible to configure in the gallery software, but to do a mass refresh of all the existing thumbnails would take a very long time and has a serious performance impact on our server, so we'll have to take a look at whether this is possible to do retrospectively.

I have however created the ConFuzzled 2014 album with default thumbnail size set to 250px - hope that makes it a bit easier for new photos being uploaded.

Discussion / Re: Smoking outside the hotel entrance
« on: May 28, 2014, 17:52:42 »
This did not get raised as the feedback session, although it was something we had become aware of over the weekend and did discuss with the hotel staff about it.

Apparently this is a problem they have all year around, not just during our event, and wherever possible our staff and theirs were asking people to move to the designated smoking shelter which is far from the main doors (or at least away from the entrance if people declined to go to the shelter).  Unfortunately we do not have the manpower to be able to station someone on the doors for the whole length of the convention and had hoped that the existing hotel signage and gentle reminders would be sufficient to move people along, however this was not the case.

We'll be looking at what we can do to improve this for next year.

Hi there - I believe our events team are currently working on deciding how they want to run the Gaming stuff this year - if you get in touch with them on events@confuzzled.org.uk I'm sure they'd love to hear your ideas, or perhaps you might like to help out.

Discussion / Re: Artwork Submission Email Problem
« on: January 26, 2014, 22:18:26 »
Hello,

Did you get any further details in the error message email indicating why it failed?

The most common reason is attachment size - how large were any files you were trying to attach?
