I don't think this debate will ever end but if it was a case of 'social deheadding'' then that does need to be pointed out and stopped before it becomes a new ''thing''.
I've a top tip for anyone who needs help into or out of suit as I do; make proper use of the fursuit lounge. I've not really done this before despite being a relative con veteran however what I did at Confuzzled was put on my undersuit in my room and then put regular clothes on top. Then head down to the fursuit lounge, get into suit and ask someone who's there (there's always someone there) to help zip you up and then go suiting. When it comes to a time when you want to pop your head off for air or water, head back to the fursuit lounge (you should know your own physical limits to not end up in a situation where you're about to pass out and have to remove the head as the lounge was never a huge walk away). If you then want to get out of suit, go back to the fursuit lounge, get some help unzipping, stick the suit on the epic drier of doom and put your regular clothes back on top of your now moist undersuit. Then get back to your room to remove the undersuit and showerIt is this amount of effort that people go to, to stay in character that makes me upset to see (I can't be bothered) suiters.
Quote3. Due to certain people staying in the hotel this year i did not trust my suit being in the fursuit lounge,
This year was the first time I left my head unattended in the fursuit lounge, everything was OK and it didn't get damaged or stolen.
There was nothing to hang fursuits on in the Rotunda lounge apart from the chairs, so I left my fursuit spread out on the bed in my room. It was only damp around the neck part.
I'm not an appreciater of fursuits, so I don't really get this. Fursuits don't spoil shots. Partial fursuits don't spoil shots. Human heads on fursuit bodies I'm told are bad. But humans wandering around in the shot are apparently OK? I would have thought they would be much worse.
I don't think I'll ever understand fursuiting.
From all the thousands I've seen so far. The issue of people without heads ruining photos doesn't seem very apparent.Wish I could say it was an exaggeration, Yag. I have spent ages just splitting video with the headless folks in them.
It was my First Con, and I was unhappy to see some Fursuiters walking around without their heads on!
During the Fursuit Fiasco, I was glancing towards the refreshments and I saw Fursuiters taking their heads off.
There should be an area of the Room that should feature large Boards that are up to 6'6 in height - that way the fursuiters can take their heads off in private and have refreshments!
I would say it's important to keep things simple and give the basis for how to do things. People will come up with their own methods or how to perform, hot to move and such with their own suits in time. Just a few basics are a good thing to get started with.
Just to clarify, I would like input regarding the kind of things you think new suiters should hear about so I can build a list and then elaborate on them.

That kind of topics is good for a fursuit 101 beginner panel but it's not useful for intermediate-advanced performers.
I was thinking about some really advanced panels like we had at EF15 with GoH Croc & Jimmy Chin :
Action not words : Croc told to the attendees how interact/communicate is important in suit and how to use a spotter/helper to his advantage. Fursuiting is not just hugging, waving, posing but it's also interaction with people.
I suit, therefore I am : Croc told us about character creation, consistency. It's the next step after fursuiting and it's all about bringing a character to life, with his own personality and story.
Why mascots matters : Jimmy Chin told us his experience about Critters by the Bay and professional mascotting.
We could also have a workshop with specific topics : writing a fursuit/mascot skit, acting, dancing, using props...
I can supply "loaner" fursuits for people to try!
Go Chicken!
To be honest I'd love to see a panel on current best practice, and also one on the "history of fursuiting"Delph, This is kind of what I mean, it was just a mention one or two of the best practices (Etiquette) were back when I got into costuming to how things have relaxed a bit over the last 5+ years. Since you mention it, I actually would like to split it off because I have some nice stories to tell about costuming over the years. I would also invite someone in on this.
I know we've got a heavyweight carved foam fursuit head in the loft which we can compare against the lightweight mask heads we use these days, and I'm sure that feet have improved over the years as well.
