Title: Your feedback urgently required - Food for thought
Post by: RizzoRattie on March 17, 2011, 22:39:07
Hi everyone,

it seems that I am presented with an impossible situation.  After a discussion with the chairman, neither of us can decide one way or the other on a particular menu choice.  Since this is YOUR convention, and YOU will be attending, I thought we will simply put the choice out there for you to offer feedback on.

Before you respond, please be advised any announcements about general food stuffs available on the menu will be made once all decisions are finalised.  All we are looking for in this thread is your opinion about price.  Please do not offer suggestsions on meals, as the options were set in place already.

so...

If you were given the choice of a main meal with a choice of desserts for £8.95 (think pub style foods) or an all you can eat buffet style meal for £10.50 (also pub style food), which one would be more appealing to you and why?

Thanks!

I'd probably go the main meal, sounds more formal and had negative experiences with all you can eat in the past.

Also would very much depend on the price of the drinks, if it's £2.50 for a pint of coke i'll be going to subway instead.

I'd lean towards the "two courses for £8.95" option, assuming that'd be cooked (or at least warmed up!) to order, given the AYCE buffet offerings tend to be smaller portions (think Pizza Hut et al), and sit out for ages getting cold, until such point as they're replenished.

Cheers,

Southie

Two things:

1) Is this price for anyone at the con, or just residential attendees?

2) Does the buffet include dessert?

HMM

For the small amount extra, I'd say the buffet. That way I can pick and choose between dishes.

That said, I probably won't be eating at the hotel XD DOMINOS AHOOOOOY

GENERALLY, I would probably vote for the buffet... lots of choice, different dishes, you can pick and choose, and easily fill up, especially if you're worried about portion size, as you can eat as much as you like.

I'd definately be inclinated towards the buffet all you can eat. Gives a nice informal setting to it , lets people go at their own pace and such , easier to see what's available and what you fancy , and generally a more relaxed atmosphere I think than sitting down to a set of courses.

pricewise , seems good to me for a hotel buffet , and quite doable I thinks.

I'd go for buffet because I can just get a plate and almost right away start eatting. A small wait in line at the food counter is better than sitting around at a table bored and waiting for food to arrive. :)

Hi TR,

indeed the meals are for anyone wearing a con badge.  As we have occupancy on the hotel this year, we have set our own rules so to speak.

Buffett would indeed include desserts sorry.  I neglected to mention this.

Many thanks,

I'd go for the main meal with a choice of desserts for £8.95 option.

Meals are more formal and social. They give you more time to relax and eat at your own pace.

Buffets while casual, always seem to rush you out for the next person. Along with that, buffets involve everyone grabing what they want...
and i would prefer less human contact from the cooking to eating stage as possible.

I like the courses idea :)

And Blue's also for the course idea! :) Just popping that here as he's not registered here, and it keeps all your responses in the same spot :D

I'd say the £8.95 option is probably the best option myself as well.

One of my friends dragged me off to another part of the hotel just before the Dominos ordering got underway last year, annoyed me a bit XD. Won't be making that mistake this year!

Then I most definitely vote for the buffet, another reason being that you can help yourself, wheras with the courses option, you will have 400 people descending on the restaurant often at the same time, with only a certain amount of waiting staff able to serve! Could be in for long waits for service and food. The only thing I'd stipulate with the buffet is that the food is kept fresh, regularly replaced etc, not just left under heat lamps all day...

Main meal option here too, wouldn't this be better as a poll so we can see which option is more popular more easilly?

Hi nekosune,

No a poll wasn't required. A decision was made very quickly on this and the forum was not the only place we quizzed people on the opinions. Thank you for your feedback on the meals.

A decision was made very quickly on this ...

A decision was made very quickly on this ...

A decision was made very quickly in the furry community?!

LIES!!!

Hehe nah that's awesome, i'm guessing it would also depend on what was on the main menu and what was on the buffet, £10 spent for sausage rolls and cocktail sausage from Asda < £8 spent by for roast beef meal

I might be late, but if it's the same buffet that was provided by the hotel as last year I would take that dinner buffet any day. Was so filling and varied I enjoyed eating there immensely.

With dessert too? I'm way past sold :)

I suspect that the bacon was boiled and not fried up, under the heat lamps to keep them hot they would have glued up a bit.

I didn't find the prices that bad, it was cheaper per drink then the London fur meet ones.
