Major issue is that part of Dusk's standard armament is his AK47 and Mk23 SOCOM assault pistol, both of which I own Airsoft versions of, but as they are RIFs (Replica Imitation Firearms), that although we are allowed to use them for Airsoft the Violent Crime Reduction act says they are not to be used in public since they are that realistic. So I can't bring them, even if unloaded and with no battery or gas.
Too illegal and too dangerous. Police seeing me with them can get me shot. And that would not be good for the Airsoft community or the furry fandom.
EDIT: Bouncing off walls now! I have paid for CF! I'm on my way!
Whilst I'm in no way completely familiar with the current laws on airsoft weapons (Despite being quite interested enough in the sport to own a Star L86 (
That thing was expensive!)), I'm pretty sure that having the Mk23 at the venue, so long as it is in a holster, peace-bound and barrel-plugged, should be OK. The AK, I'm not so sure about, but the
Weapons Policy says replica firearms must be holstered at al times in convention space, and I've yet to find an AK holster
. This might be something worth asking in the Q&A forum, that way you can get input from ConOps and Security, rather than just your friendly, gun-totting Media Relations
.
And for the record, the VCRA/B/Whatever just reiterates the "Don't be a fool and wave it around in public" bit that's been law since, well, a long time ago. Also, I think that if the police saw them and shot you, it wouldn't just be bad for airsoft and furry, but for you too
