Introduce Yourself / Re: A husky says hello
« on: January 14, 2012, 17:32:41 »
This convention will be a first for me so I don't really know what to expect, I don't personally know any other furs.

My fursuit has only ever been tried on twice for a short length of time 10 minutes or so.

Oh good luck... I've never worn a fursuit for a variety of reasons, but chief among them has got to be the raw heat of having one on.  As for meeting other furs... you'd be hard pressed to find a more efficient way to do so then attending a con... :P

I wonder if it's more along the lines of people who are choosing this as a first con are more likely to try and get into the forums and get to know people beforehand whereas people who've either attended the con before or who are veteran con-goers don't do forums as much because they know what to expect?

Hmmmm.... and Howdy!  Not my first con but my first extra-national con so there's firsts all around. :P

Do you follow the convention on Twitter etc? Most news gets announced through there very quickly so you'd know about it.

Ditto... speaking as a man with two left feet who nevertheless seems persistently to get caught "giving it a go" I wouldn't mind pointers.

Sure I'll stop by, though I'm not much a one for giving advice.  I don't run what I'd call a successful webcomic (yet)  I'm just getting it started... though I've had fantastic good fortune in the artists I've been able to hire for the project.

While I don't know that I really qualify as a webcomics creator since I am strictly speaking a writer who happens to work on a webcomic project, I'd be more than willing to have a sit down and hear from others who do webcomics... as long as the coffee is good.  My other half (on the webcomic) won't be attending Confuzzled and as she's the artist, I suspect she's the one most would really want to talk to. :)

I must confess I'm not too much aware of the difference? 80's as in 1980's is what I'm referring to.

Perhaps it's a linguistic thing then (wherein disco is to refer to dance clubs themselves rather than a specific type of dance music), but disco music as a genre isn't a staple of the 1980's music in the US, dying out in the first two years of the decade but having been on the decline since a 1979 event at a double-header baseball game in Chicago that heralded the unofficial death of the genre stateside.  It was pretty much a riot that ensued after a rock radio station DJ blew up a crate of unwanted disco records on the field between games as part of a promotion.

To this day the word disco without clarification represents (to a statesider) a generally reviled type of music that died a hideous death alongside bell-bottom pants, though I hastily point out that it spawned many later generations of pop and techno music that enjoyed continued popularity in the dance clubs.  My dad was quite the fan if his old record collection is any indication. :P

I haven't much of an idea what the history of dance music in the UK is, but it would be no surprise to me if the genre that died out in the states lived on in the UK or that as the music evolved it kept the same genre sub-type because the word didn't carry the negative connotations it gained in the states in '79.  I tend to just assume that period music in various countries is going to be different than music in the states at during the same time-frame.  One of the most notable examples of which I'm aware is that 1980's dance and rock from the US was pretty much the template for the vast majority of the popular music in Japan in the mid to late 1990's, and it was a running joke among the anime and J-pop/rock nuts that I hung out with at the time that Japanese music was a decade behind (which was cool for us: we all loved 1980's music).

I really look forward to hearing some music I've probably never been exposed to.

This site might help you find what your looking for http://www.westsussexmotorcyclehire.co.uk/our-bikes.asp

After following the links provided by two most excellent and helpful individuals I have come to the conclusion that whatever I wind up with will have four wheels... part of the desire for a motorcycle was saving a bit of cash on gas and feeling the wind in my hair.  The saving money bit, for those of you who've looked, is obviously a laughable objective, and for the price of the deposit never mind the daily or even weekly rental charge... If I want the wind in my hair I'll roll down the window of the compact I wind up with and stick my head out.  Works for dogs; it'll work for me.

Hi Cebelius, welcome to our forum. Hope you have a lot of fun at the con. As far as bike hire goes I hope this helps you find something that meets your needs.

Best regards

You make me question my sanity. I ran the search for "Great Britain Motorcycle rental" and got a completely different listing of thoroughly useless information.  I suppose it's all in how you phrase it.

I know what you mean.  My very first A-kon I wound up a door stop for security.  Now here I am 12 years later I'm still in security... taco'd into zone leading for the last few years.  Didn't go this last year because I was on assignment in Kyrgyzstan, but I can't go to that kon without working it.  I don't think they'd even SELL me a normal badge.
