Discussion / Help out Theming for 2016
« on: June 17, 2015, 19:23:01 »
Hi all!

It's that time of year where Theming requires more warm bodies. This year we require both Crew and Minions.

Minions are the volunteers that help us build/create all the fun pretty objects. They fall under Creative or Constructive.
Creative help us by doodling pretty arts for doors/signs/standees and the like
Constructive help us build things such as the Lit pillar and Banner frame outside nightclub.

Crew get more involved with the running of the department, Doing designs and arranging things, as well as the building and creating of things.

If you wish to join up, please visit one or both of these links ^_^ Just because you want to be one, doesn't mean you can't apply for the other. People unsuccessful at the Crew may be offered a volunteer position ^_^

Crew - https://goo.gl/SXhYuu

Volunteer - https://goo.gl/Q8ZKFa

These will remain open until the end of JULY 2015 ^_^

We would also gratefully accept your feedback on Theming for 2015, Just visit the link below and remember, Be Honest! ^_^ Feel free to suggest things for 2016 there too.

Feedback / Re: Confuzzled 2015 Pros and Cons
« on: May 29, 2015, 20:54:17 »
Thank you kindly for the feedback!

Regarding the gaming events, we'll definitely be reviewing them and seeing what we can do to improve him.

The problem with a games room is that it is super high in resource requirements:
  • Setting up two Wii U's took about half an hour and tearing down about 15 minutes. Add more consoles and this would get longer meaning we'd need to basically 'take over' a room because sharing it would be a huge effort every start and stop.
  • For all the hours its open, it would need a rotation of at least two members of staff, similar to Ops which has a big team to handle it. Given the cost of the equipment involved, said staff would need to be well trusted.
  • It would require some careful security requirements to prevent theft, including maybe a security guard at the door for all opening hours.
  • We'd need a TV or compatible projector, screen and a sound system for every console. These are items we have but are in high demand by other events with presentations from laptops.
  • Arranging consoles and loaned equipment requires careful planning and the older systems certainly aren't getting any less delicate!

If we were able to solve all these issues then maybe we could bring back the games room! But failing that, let us know specific games you'd like to play and maybe we can add more events next year. :)

Not to mention the drain on personal that is required to PAT inspect all consoles/machines that attendees bring it for said games room. It's a legal requirement and it's not something that can be feasibly done "on the fly".
Essentially, as Nido said, we'd need a team of people who are prepared to sit in the games room to monitor it, and the equipment, and perform any PAT inspections required.

TL;DR - If you want a games room we need people to volunteer to run it! ;)

<pedant> PAT is not a legal requirement. It is however a requirement of the hotel and the con insurance policies. </pedant>
Point still stands that it is a major timesink to have this done. As at previous years have had to change plugs on numerous items due to poor wiring.
As a PAT tester in a previous life it's 20 items an hour..... IF all those are laid out in a row, plugs out and have a PERFECT condition.

PAT code of practice also lays out that portable "site" equipment. I.E. the sort that I'd classify as gaming room stuff (as it moves around lots) should be visually inspected before each use. Once again, tying up valuable staff.

So yeah. Join up ^_~

Re the notice boards.
Plan was to have one for this year built into one of the signs.
However Theming ran out of time and manpower -_-

Next year however ^_^ Expect a nice board of things ^___^

Rather than have beer in the glasses/beakers. why not have empty ones, when you score you go buy a drink and then drink it?

Saves on mess and such ^_^

Is it harder to paint on wood than paper (even though they're like... the same material but... different)? Cause I'm already abysmal at painting on paper xD I'd hate to get a little shieldy-doo and just wreck it as soon as the tip touches the surface! >-<

Hrrm. Well the wood is a much harder material so you aren't worrying about soaking the paper and such.

One of my plans is to do a 'paint by numbers' type where there's already a design lasered into the wood. this would (hopefully - through the act of surface tension) stop paint running and blending
I'm also looking at maybe cutting some foam or felt with the laser. so those who can't paint could make up a fabric or foam one ^__^

Heya all. Jencen here. The one with the 'big scary laser'

I am looking into doing an event for this years CF where you buy a bit of blank shield shaped wood, about conbadge size and then spend an hour or so painting it up in various heraldry designs.

Am wondering who would be interested?
Would be looking at £10-12 for the blanks and various paints and stencils alone with me there to "learn" you about some heraldic designs for them ^__^

Am also tempted to do a beginners chainmaille event as an introduction on how to make your own chainmaille armour ^_^
Again. Anyone interested in that sort of thing? ^_^

All together now: "Can't sleep, con will eat me."  :D

I really am at that stage.
Woke from a rather nasty dream this morning where I'd forgotten some pretty important bits for the con o.O

Am gonna have to engrave that on a badge now o.O

Hey all.

As Some of you know I've been asked to do the sponsor glasses this year.

For those who don't know

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7811710/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7811715/
Now you do ^_~

In the 4 weeks I have left 3 of them will be taken doing those.

As such I AM CLOSED FOR SHIPPING ORDERS.
CF Preorders will cut off on MONDAY the 14th of May to be done in time for CF.

I am also considering doing Preorders for engraving of names on the glasses beforehand. To do so i need to know who would be interested so Me and Tungro of CF Registration can work out a system to efficiently deal the glasses out.

If you would like to preorder a glass with your name on  and you are a sponsor please let me know here.
Name engraving is £7.50 and you can either have it on the rear of the directors chair or in the center by Brok's foot. This price is for PRE-ORDERS ONLY! Price at the con will be £12.50. So let me know if you are interested then IF/WHEN it goes ahead i will contact you to get your details ^__^

Spread the word people.

Here's a few pics. The design is done by the awesome EosFoxx

Hey all. Jencen here from Funlaser.

Once again i'll be making an appearance at CF with my giant "laser" Bringing you all the shiny goodies you want/need ^_~

This year I'll be doing some themed LED badges based around filmstrips, Acrylic clapperboards that can be customised however you like. Want to play director? heres your chance to clap that board and shout 'CUT' Will also have mini badge versions of those.
Will also be doing holywood style door stars. Get your name engraved on a gold star for your hotel door.

As it's the conventions 5th year. And because the material for a 5th anniversary is wood I'm gonna have a few things to fit that theme.
Wooden dogtags will make an apperance.
Am also goint to bring along some wooden clothes pegs. Yes PEGS! Get your name engraved on a Peg for £2 and use it as a makeshift name badge, Clip it to your suit ear... Or someone elses suit ear for that matter ^_^

We Will be supplying the attendee tags again for this year. Those acrylic dogtags you got last year? Those were done by me. And once again I'll be engraving names on the back for just £1 Also, this year they'll be made of wood ;)

As CF is only 12 weeks away and I kinda need to sort cashflow beforehand I'm going to be opening up for pre-orders on SUNDAY the 11th of MARCH. That's next weekend peeps.
As previous years have been a scene of marginally organised chaos this year will be running a slot system. All badges, Tags and name engraving will be LIMITED. Best idea is to preorder before the con then you will be guaranteed to get the item/s you want. You can preorder from the shop http://store.funlaser.co.uk

Would also appreciate people passing the word around. So the person who get's the most people to preorder from me will get a large filmstrip badge for FREE. Yes FREE. So get posting/Tweeting/Facebooking or whatever. Make sure to get them to tell me who referred you and the person with the most referrals when I close Preorders just before CF will WIN.
The small print stuff. Only open to people who are attending the convention. Prize to be awarded AT the convention. No monitary alternative will be offered.

More info will be posted on the website on sunday along with the CF info pages So come check us out at http://furry.funlaser.co.uk

Vodafone and orange were both useless. as was the Wifi up on the 4th floor.
The Hotel's WLAN only covers the main function spaces. ;-)

Any other Wi-Fi you may have picked up is someone else's.

Cheers,

Southie

Oh no. we did actually manage to pick up the hotels Wifi. Just not much of it ^_^

I think next year i may bring one of my hotspot/repeaters with the big antenna. ^_^

Awesome con was awesome +1 :)

The hotel is really a secret millitary research base and is a great big Farafay's cage of doom for phone signal. But not that bad for O2 aparently.

And yet somehow lets in the mysterious waves that wipe the door keycards.

Unless they still have the 'experimental' reactor still running.

Vodafone and orange were both useless. as was the Wifi up on the 4th floor.

Other than the comms problems it was a fantastic con. looking forward to next years
