Announcements / ConFuzzled 2013 Registration Coming Soon
« on: August 29, 2012, 23:02:18 »
Are you feeling your life lacks that cookie induced madness that is ConFuzzled? Envious of those people enjoying themselves away at EuroFurence? Are you one of those people enjoying yourself at EF and you want more? In that case, read on as we have some great news for you!

We are delighted to announce that we will be opening registration for ConFuzzled 2013 in just one short week from today – at 8pm on Wednesday the 5th of September! For details of all our ticket and pricing options, please head over to the pricing section of our website

In addition to the listed room options, we have also managed to arrange with the Hotel that we can again put a limited number of temporary single beds into both Double and Twin rooms to enable an extra person to stay in the room. This will allow a Double room to sleep three people or a Twin room to sleep up to five! Due to a technical limitation of our registration system, these options can’t currently be selected directly when registering, so please register as normal and then each person should email the registration team [registration@confuzzled.org.uk] to request your room type to be changed.

Whilst we would love to see as many people as possible registering for the convention, we must remind you that your payment becomes due as soon as your registration has been approved by the registration team. Some payment methods also incur a small surcharge to cover the fees we are charged in order to process the payments. The payment methods we accept along with repsective surchages and payment windows are as follows:

Payment over the counter at a UK HSBC branch – Free – 5 Days
Bank transfer from a UK bank account – Free – 5 Days
Credit/Debit card via Google Wallet – 3.4% of transaction plus 20p – 2 days
International bank transfer via IBAN – £7.00 – 7 days

Due to the limited availability of the Deluxe Double rooms in the hotel, we are not making them immediately available on the registration system in order to avoid the issues we saw previously, where one attendee booked a Deluxe room but we sold out before their roommate was able to register. This year, Deluxe rooms will only be available on request to our registration helpdesk – you and your prospective roommate will need to email in and request the upgrade once you are both registered. Please note rooms will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

Our rentable Party Suites were extrememly popular last year and will be making a return again this year! With the addition of an extra night to our schedule, this gives you six nights to choose from to host your party and therefore 24 bookable nights in total. For more details see http://2013.confuzzled.org.uk/venue/bedrooms/#suites. Please note that these will have their own separate registration process which will be announced later this year.

If you have any queries about registering for the convention, aren’t sure about what options you should select, or if anything should go wrong – email our registration helpdesk on registration@confuzzled.org.uk who will be more than happy to assist you.

All the best,

The ConFuzzled Team

Introduce Yourself / Re: Hey guys!

The price table only mentions double rooms (1 double bed or 2 double beds, I assume) but not twin singles?
Pretty sure me & my friend would be happy with just a twin single room, that the same price as a 2x double?
Also she said she saw somewhere that if there's not enough space other people might be placed in a room that could fit more people, how's that work?

Hi there,

One of the Commerce team will respond to your other queries, but I can answer these questions for you.

The hotel doesn't have any twin single rooms, all of their twin rooms have two full size double beds in them (and can sleep up to 4 people).

We won't put anyone extra in your room than the number of people you'd booked a ticket for - if you book a ticket for two people sharing a twin room then we'll only put two people in the room.  If you booked a ticket for three people sharing but only set up a share with one other person in our registration system then we'd allocate a third person to share with you. I hope this makes sense, but if you have any queries then please do ask!

Feedback / Re: 2012 Feedback
« on: May 31, 2012, 07:49:28 »
Because the items are being used in a public area for business purposes, they have to be tested to their specifications which requires the full test rather than just a visual inspection.
Hm, just out of curiosity.
How are "business purposes" defined? As by actual function or by "in a room that is used for business"?
My cellphone charger is normal not used to do business. :)
On the other hand does that mean that i.e. private owned stage equipment does not need that test because it is not used to generate money (in this particular case?)
UK law is weird... you don't have to be making money for it to qualify as being used for business purposes. If the item us being used in one of the function rooms for any purpose, then it must be tested.  The same applies if I take my phone charger with me to work - if I want to use it I have to have maintenance come test it first!

One special detail: All electric used in the dealers den required a testing. Whose idea was that?

You can blame that on the UK Health and Safety Executive. Because the items are being used in a public area for business purposes, they have to be tested to their specifications which requires the full test rather than just a visual inspection. It's a pain, but unfortunately a legal requirement which we can't avoid. We do plan to have more people able to do the testing next year though.

Discussion / Re: Door Art?
« on: May 20, 2012, 17:51:43 »
Hi,

Door art isn't a problem, in fact a lot of the staff will have some on their doors! Just make sure that you only use something like blutac to hold it up, no sticky tape or anything that might damage the doors. Oh, and it's got to be PG rated.

Google checkout accepts any major credit or debit card, much like you would make a purchase from a website with integrated cad payments.

Hi,

We've already made sure that a number of local businesses, including this one, are well aware of what to expect when we invade the town! :)

Dealers Den & Art Auction / Re: The Auction
« on: March 29, 2012, 23:35:37 »
Hello Lamar,

The original thread was locked because it was turning into a back-and-forth argument that was not producing any productive results with each side simply repeating itself. Please do not flaunt the moderation of this forum again or you will face a suspension of posting rights on it. If you feel that any moderation decision is unfair you may appeal that to any of the forum staff who will review the decision - making a new post is not the way to do this. Please do not do this again.

Since the convention last year we have had to deal with many posts and comments from yourself, many of which have been uninformed and come over as just an unending stream of criticism and complaint. I have received numerous complaints from members of my staff about this, some of whom have been very upset by the tone in which some of your posts have come across. This is a situation I cannot ignore.

I must also correct you about your understanding of the results of the feedback session.  I have pulled out my notes from the session and from what I can see, we did not make any promise that there would not be any adult art in the auction at all. We did agree that we would review the situation, but no definite answer was given at the time.  The policy has indeed been reviewed as promised and we will commit to censoring the projection screens for the auction. A sign will also be posted at the entrance to inform people that there may be items on view when taken around that could be adult in nature and the auctioneers will make a warning at the start of the auction that items being shown to people for a closer look may be uncensored. The auctioneer will also clearly state if any item being shown around the room is adult in nature. We believe that it is quite reasonable for people to avert their gaze from an item carried around the room.

We very much try our hardest to be tolerant and accommodating to everyone at the convention, but I really must restate that so far the people who have registered an objection to adult artwork in the auction really are in a minority compared to the overall attendance.

We derive our auction format from a number of international furry conventions, including Eurofurence, who all have the adult artwork distributed throughout their auctions in this way. The pseudo-random distributions of items throughout the auction allows for a series of peaks and troughs in bidding interest which makes for a much more interesting experience for all those attending. We have consistently had a noticably higher attendance at the auction every year with this policy in place and so I do not believe that it is impacting the possible total that we can raise.

This thread will now be locked. If you wish to appeal this decision you may contact me directly by email to chairman@confuzzled.org.uk or my counterpart on vicechair@confuzzled.org.uk.

Kind Regards,
Matthew "Matt Lion" Hood
Convention Chairman

Discussion / Re: Payment Confirmation
« on: March 24, 2012, 10:51:16 »
Hi Zeminior,

Please accept my apologies on behalf of the convention for the inconvenience with these emails not being received.

I have checked the system logs for our helpdesk ticketing system which picks up all the emails sent to registration@confuzzled.org.uk and sends an automatic acknowledgement in reply, and it would appear that your emails never arrived in our email account, which is hosted by Google. Unfortunately there is no way to see why it wasn't delivered into our email account.

Given you didn't receive a failure notification when they weren't delivered, the only thing I can think of is that the Google spamfilter ate your emails - Tungro could you please have a look into that?

I would recommend that Private Messages on the forum are the best way to communicate for the time being.

Discussion / Re: ConBook submissions
« on: March 17, 2012, 20:30:07 »
Hi,

I can confirm that your submissions were received and are being considered for the conbook, unfortunately we're not able to say what made it into the book in advance as we keep changing things up until the book goes to print depending on what else needs to be fitted in, as well as it being a nice surprise when people receive the book at the convention.

Events / Re: Events Ideas
« on: February 29, 2012, 22:22:34 »
Just wanted to put this on the record: space for board/card/role-playing games is really appreciated. It's not exactly an event (well, except maybe pre-planned RPGs) but having a room with a few tables and chairs that people can occupy for the duration makes things much simpler, and if the location can be advertised in the conbook so much the better. This worked pretty well in the previous couple of cons -- the only snag I can think of is that the assigned space was very close to the dance floor and got pretty noisy at times.

(If I get organized I may run an RPG, but I daren't commit right now...)

Hi there,

We've got this one in hand, we're just deciding which is the best space to allocate to this. This should be done in enough time to appear in the conbook.

The hotel does have a public performance license, however we would need to double check how this is affected by anything that was purchased outside the UK.

Announcements / Re: ConFuzzled 2012 Events Schedule - Sneak Preview!
« on: February 20, 2012, 23:04:25 »
Hi Lamar,

There are currently about 60 events which are in our internal planning system which do not appear on the schedule yet as we haven't timetabled them yet, hence the caveat stated that the schedule is subject to change and additions. The idea of this release was to allow people to see when the main evening events were being held for the Party Suite bookings which open later this month.

The convention staff and events team collate information from forum threads and then contact people directly or direct people to contact the events email address. We have also had plenty of direct contacts to the events team. I can assure you that there will be no shortage of events in the final schedule.
