2008 Discussion / Re: Power for tablet laptops?
« on: May 21, 2008, 23:01:02 »
Ah, 'kay... so its hunt the plug socket then! Woo! Fun! :D Do we know if there'll be any in the rooms?

I just wasn't sure if there was any health and safety policy on the building regarding peoples use of mains sockets...

I guess everyone would be responsible for their own equipment being in good working order

I've DJ'd a couple clubs where they won't let you use your own equipment unless you can produce a valid PAT test certificate!

We'll have the facility to PAT test anything that needs to be tested, although we will need to resolve exactly where the boundaries are.  If it's your own stuff in your own room, for fun, then I don't think it's an issue (or rather it's no different from taking the same bit of kit into a hotel).  Stuff the con provides for you to use needs to be tested.  If you were using your laptop in the dealers den, for example, then it kinda counts as "work", and you ought to ensure it is safe (but we can test it for you) - I think this is where those clubs were coming from.

Just to be clear, the posts on the forum can be read by anyone (including non-furs), without a login, and are effectively public.

Water will be available in the fursuit headless lounge during the con.  There will also be fans to cool down and blower for drying heads.

Questions and Answers / Re: Options to Attend

To me you make it sound like some horror convention. Confuzzled is going to be my first one and now you are scarying the shit out of me what i can expect from the hostel. Geez. I have a hard time beliving its so horrible as you say but on the other hand..

I was just thinking the same thing.  o_O
We'd show you photos of the rooms, except they are all being refitted - so we can't.   I thought they were quite reasonable the way they were, but you'll be getting stuff that's newer.  I know I have stayed in hotels that were worse.  Each room also has a shower, sink, and toilet, so it will be no different to sharing a room in a hotel, which is par for the course at a furry con.  I can't comment on the food, as I've yet to eat there, plus the kitchen and restaurant are also part of the refit.

Off-Topic Non Furry Discussion / Re: What sort of music do you like?
« on: January 11, 2008, 10:02:53 »
I've given up trying to categorise what music I like.  Some of the areas it tends to gravitate to are synthpop, electronica (esp. early stuff), 1st gen punk, 2nd gen Ska/TwoTone, ambient/trance, and anything that's sufficiently silly to make me laugh.  I don't like music-to-slash-your-wrists-by, particularly The Smiths, and the putrid excrescence that comes from manufactured bands.  But none of that really explains what I listen to.

On the condition that he doesn't sing, presumably? ;)  Blaster's singing is legendary, as I'm sure listeners of TigerTails Radio will attest to.
Remember the YHA provides free ear plugs!

The eyes is made from some old sunglasses i had. But, the biggest problem with the mask is that the eyes get all foggy, and it's hard to breathe in there.
Anyone got any ideas. I think I'll cut a little hole on the sides of the eyes. To see if it prevents fog, and maybe better air inside.
I'd suggest getting as much ventilation as possible in there; fursuiting is quite strenuous activity once you start to perform, and you'll need a free supply of air.  Air flow is the important thing, and that means space for the air to move around as well as holes for it to go in and out.  I'd suggest adding holes in the nostrils, and a slit around the mouth, plus removing material from the inside of the mask where possible to allow the air to flow around your face.  As it looks like only the front of the head is a cast you might want to consider making space for air to flow to the rear via the cheeks too.

There's a whole slew of jokes of the following form, best told to those expecting something in bad taste:

Q: What's long, thin, and looks like a snake?
A: A snake.

Highlight the text after the A: to see!

Whilst my health means a full blown Fursuit would be practically suicide I am attempting to design and build a wheelchair friendly set of removable prosthetic ears, tail, paws and my signature robe.

I use false teeth so I might see about getting a set of rodent teeth made if it's inexpensive and I suppose I could make a lightweight mask... not a full blown fur suit I know, but it should hopefully be a decent compromise :)
It would be relatively easy, I think, to take a cast of the false teeth, scuplt some enhancements, then cast a new set.  Easy that is compared with casting teeth still in one's head, and then doing all the fiddly bits around the gums and roof.

Good luck with the suit!

WELL since I'm too young to attend ConFuzzled, I'm going to Red Blue White and to that convention I plan covering myself in a CRAPLOAD of glowsticks. xDD Mainly blue~ My other two friends and I are going and we're having colour schemes. Blue + pink for me, Red + yellow for her and Green + purple for my other friend. It's gonna be greeeaattt, I still wish I could of came to ConFuzzled. D|; -stabs at the fact that she's 14- TTxTT; -whine-

I'm sure you'll enjoy RBW, the December dark nights will enhance the glowstick goodness.  I'd go if it wasn't such a mad-busy time of the year for me!

Wait, wait..
I just read the site and I can't go because I'm too young.. so, forget what I just said.
-heartbroken- .. ugh.. I was.. so excited. Had my costume ready too..

So sorry to hear that.  I hope you can have some fun at regular furmeets until we can accommodate you at Confuzzled.  From what I recall the biggest hurdle was getting all the staff through the legal hurdles to allow us to accept under 18s.

We'd recommend a picture of your character that's been commissioned or a photo of a fursuit, of those two choices. ^.^

Out of interest are we planning to offer fursuit badges as an addition to con badges (for a small fee), so that 'suiters can walk around wearing their suit's con badge rather than their personal con badge?
