Feedback / Re: Hinckley Island Hotel Appreciation
« on: June 06, 2013, 14:05:28 »
The staff at Hinckley were just flat out amazing. Not one was rude, pushy, or absurd. They Dealt with everything patiently and with a smile on their face. And they were great sports to wear the shirts as well! I actually overheard one of them say it was a shame they couldn't keep the shirts because they were adorable XD.

All in all, they helped provide a good experience in the hotel itself, and I'll miss them next con. It'll be big shoes for the Hilton to fill!

many people like to wear the t-shirts as normal t-shirts at work (for instance) and don't necessarily want to start answering possibly awkward questions about what "ConFuzzled" is.

So why is it so awkward to answer, Confuzzled is just a social gathering of people with interests in anthropomorphism?

People wear T shirts with names of music bands, holiday resorts they have visited, sports teams they support, films they like so why not a T shirt featuring an interest in anthropomorphism?

Because, unfortunately, the furry fandom has a different meaning to us than it does to everyone else who either:

a) Doesn't understand it, doesn't take the time to, and only goes by what stereotypes there are out there (Those nasty evil ones that make us ALL look like perverted perverts with no other interest whatsoever)....

or

b) Doesn't understand it, tries to, and discovers that it's not for them for various reasons (weather it be the suits make them uncomfortable, to the crowds, to the fact that everyone relates to an animal in one way or another etc etc...too many variables to list).

Some of us, not all of us, are up for keeping this their own hobby, sharing it with only like minded people. And personally, I think that's okay. Having family members who wouldn't understand, or friends who might back away at the mere look of a shirt is something that does happen, and it's an unfortunate thing. The lack of understanding and proper education on the subject is part of the problem, but sometimes being able to educate others on it is not an option because the fandom tends to be a little....."in your face" if you will.

There will always be people out there who just don't get it, and some of us want to avoid the criticism and the guffawing remarks that can lead to broken friendships or even a broken family (yes, I've seen that happen before...it sucks). Some of us would like to just live our day to day life and escape from it all on our own with like minded people.

Despite how long furries have been around....it'll take a while before society as a whole just gives up and moves onto something else that they can try to make sound horrible at first sight.

Feedback / Food allergy questions....
« on: June 04, 2013, 21:45:10 »
Hokay, firstly, the food orginazation and all that was amazing for the amount of people that did go to the con! So I just wanted to say I'm not going to knock that or anything....

The only thing that did kinda get my goat was the hotel's reaction to people's food allergies/intolerances.

I have Coeliac disease, which is essentially an autoimmune disease....gluten goes into my body, and my body says "OH CRAP YOU'RE A HORRIBLE SICKNESS OUT YOU GO!" and I'm basically bedridden for a day or two depending on the intake...due to this I can't really trust hotel food or any resturant food unless I specifically talk to the chef or have the waiter talk to the chef for me to be sure that there is no cross contamination.

In this case, I was given the information to contact the hotel to see if they catered to anyone who has a specific ailment such as this, and the response was pretty much a polite worded "Due to the volume of people....uh...no." So I asked if I was able to bring in any outside food from Tesco or anything of the like from the Gluten free range...in return, another polite worded "No" followed by "unless it's in the dealers den/your hotel room or any other areas that allow it". I got this back from the hotel as well despite me presenting my case. So, I ended up having to leave the con on several occasions to go to resturants/shops/the hotel we were staying at just to be able to eat. I was able to eat once in the Dealers den (as I was a helper), but other than that, I couldn't really sit with friends at the con while they ate what was at the hotel.

Now, I know I'm one person in a sea of people, so I'm asking on behalf of us who actually HAVE allergies/intolerances etc etc....what is it going to be like this year? Will the hotel be a little more lenient? Can there be exceptions for those of us who absolutely cannot eat food at the hotel but can buy food from an outside source for themselves so they can actually get the proper nourishment WHILE enjoying the con as opposed to having to leave and waste fuel/cab money and the like?

Don't get me wrong, I won't kick up a fuss if there's no way for this too happen, I just want to know what I'm going to need to do for next year. And who knows, maybe help out anyone who does have allergies/intolerances what what not to prepare as well :)

Thanks for your time!

I personally think the shirts are rather spiffy. The colour, the design, the subtle simplicity with the look of a moonlit night. It's flat out awesome.

But, This is where the age old rule of "You can't please everyone" comes into play.

Not everyone is going to like this shirt, and it's sad that it is true. Not everyone likes toony con shirts either, and that's a shame as well. But not all of us like licorice or chocolate, or even...dare I say....Frog in the Boot. We're so different and so varied that it will be impossible to create a shirt design that will appease everyone.

Perhaps next year you'll have a shirt that's more to your liking! You never know :)

In the meantime, enjoy what you DID get out of the con. The book, the badges, the little shields. Those are nifty reminders that you can still show off to people if they have any questions (Specially the con book, that thing is full of furry goodness).

The hotel staff didn't get to keep their t-shirts, this was confirmed to be by several sources including one of the managers
Aww, that's unfair  :(

Could someone at least send them one of the attendee t-shirts each as a momento ?

All the yes on that one. Totally agree there XD.

Feedback / Re: Headless Fursuiters...
« on: June 04, 2013, 19:59:11 »
I know i'm a newbie to the con, but I'm no stranger to fursuiters or being in one. I've never had one of my own, but I had a friend who would lend me his head and paws a couple of times whenever we'd go out somewhere for a meet. And I have to say, despite it being a partial, the head and arm/paws got incredibly hot (California weather...huzzah). Every fur meet, we would all spend about two/three hours in our suits and then we'd go to take a break. If there were children around, we'd keep them on, then we'd go somewhere where we could take them off away from the children. However, if it got too hot, or if something occurred, the "Illusion" or the "magic"...or..what not...would not matter. People are more important than keeping up appearances.

At this con, which was the most incredible thing I had ever seen when it came to gathering furries....I saw people with heads off, with suits down to the waist, and you know what? It didn't matter to me. It was a very warm week, everyone needed to be comfortable, everyone needed to be healthy. If a written rule was put in place, I think it would put a LOT of people off, and those that still wanted to go to the con would feel a bit restricted when it comes to their own inner character being forced to remain on even when in the most uncomfortable situations.

Look on the bright side, everyone kept their suits on during the parade ;)

Introduce Yourself / Boop :}

Hello hello :) I'm Auro, an American Fur that lives in Bristol. Went to Confuzzled 2013 and had a great time! Can't wait for next year :D

I'm an artist who sits in a call centre all day chit chatting about cars, and on occasion I do manage to poop out an art piece or two. Since the con I've been just a tiny bit more motivated, so I'm sure I'll be plastering pictures around on my gallery soon :)

Have a gander and poke around!

And uh...yeah...there we go. If you wanna poke me on messengers, feel free (once I've gotten my profile sorted) and I'll poke you back! :)
