Off-Topic / Re: Gay Furries

Will there be any gay furries there this year? Because if there is we can always get together and hang out.  :D

All furries are gay.

I think that's a troll :) And even if it weren't ... that must absolutely look hilarious for someone to read who didn't know what kind of event was going on that day :)

I heard a lot of complaints about weird temperature changes in the dealers den - and quite a few people came home sick with a cold. Apparently it's a problem with the construction of the room - it's a large multi-purpose ballroom that can be turned into smaller rooms by putting in divider walls. But the air con apparently still only has one thermostat for the entire room, no matter how it is devided. So each time there was an event going on the main stage, it also automatically cranked up the cooling in the dealers den next door. I guess that can only be solved by re-arranging the way this space is used.

Or maybe handing out blankets to the dealers :)

Feedback / Hotel Feedback
« on: May 30, 2014, 13:54:22 »
Hi everyone!

I must say, I really like the new hotel. I found it a little bit dark and stuffy at first, but the impression changed as soon as it was flooded with furries - it's amazing what a few metric tons of cute can do to lift up the atmosphere!

My room: You could tell this is not a very new building, and that it has seen more than just one renovation cycle. But the room was clean, comfy, absolutely up to standard, and I was positively surprised not to have a single key card failure :) I had some very minor issues, but nothing out of the ordinary for a hotel of that size and age. And it was absolutely not a problem.

Service: Top notch. Personnel was always friendly, very helpful, housekeeping did a spotless job and the concierge desk was a very welcome luxury, too - they made some very good dining recommendations, reserved a table for us, and got us a taxi. Perfect. I felt really well cared for.

Travelling: Being able to go from the airport to the hotel on foot - it really doesn't get any better.

The bar: Very comfy, with the sofas and all, just the right place to camp out for a week and be social while getting hammered. Drink prices were absolutely normal for this kind of venue, and the discount was a nice touch - I even ended up spending quite a bit less than I thought I would. The bar seemed to be a little bit understaffed, especially in the later hours. I actually had to grin - as someone who's frequently had to negotiate with convention venues, I know that in the first year, they ALWAYS underestimate the sheer drinking power of furries :) So I expect them to modify their shift plans for next year - unless they're colossaly stupid :)

Food: Surprisingly edible! I had a Hilton Burger, a Steak Sandwich and some Pizza, and found the quality very decent. I also can't complain about the BBQ. Four kinds of meat, and lots of salad and sauces and a really good dessert. Much better than at the last venue!

Function Space: It apparently had lots of it :) I heard people complain about the slightly confusing layout, but I think everyone eventually got it. Maybe a little more signage would help next year. I found no reason to complain though, the rooms were large enough at all events I attended, and it never got too hot.

Good pick, guys!

Feedback / Re: Nightclub last admittance policy
« on: May 30, 2014, 13:23:32 »
The reason why BBF overran for a couple of minutes was that we had some annoying technical difficulties resulting in BBF starting with a delay, and so we asked if we can have a bit of extra time to make up for it ...

I totally had no idea there was something like a 15-minute-policy, and I met quite a few people who were hit by it rather unexpectedly. I can confirm it caused quite a bit of frustration - it was a recurring conversation topic at the bar that night.

I would suggest scrapping that policy. It makes some sense at a REAL nightclub that charges a cover fee (where admitting people late would cause demands for refunds), and where you might have actual crowd management issues with queues in front of closed doors. But I see no advantage for such a policy if it's just a ballroom at a furry con.

Feedback / Re: What is it with the lack of chairs?

As for the pawpet show, unfortunately I didn’t personally see this event, so am unsure how subscribed it was, but if you ended up sitting on the floor, it does sound like we need to look at addressing this issue for the following year.

No, the pawpetshow was the one event I attended that did have proper seating, and I enjoyed it very much :)

(The amount of nonsense answers kinda blew this a bit out of proportion -  I figured the reason behind the seating problem is logistical, just wanted to point out it can make a bigger difference for some audience members than might be obvious. That's all.)

The floor in the opening and closing ceremony's were not hard concrete... they were all carpeted as was the floor in the room used for the dance competition.

Yeah, I also have carpet on my floor in my flat at home, but I still haven't had that urge to throw out all of my chairs because of that :)

Maybe you could bring one of those fold-up deck chairs next year and take it with you to the events.

Of course I could. But that would be like, bringing my own table to a restaurant, just in case they don't have any. Are seats really such an unreasonable thing to expect at main stage events in your opinion?

Did you not do the EF bum hardening program? 3 hour puppet show sat on a hard wooden bench really toughens the buns! :)

If you'd prefer that, I'll be more than happy to ask security to remove a chair and reserve you a space on the floor at any stage event of your choice at EF :)

Hi!

You all know, I really love Confuzzled, and I really prefer to give positive feedback than negative. But this time, there was one thing that really ruined the experience for me at more than one occasion. I attended four "main stage" class events: The opening ceremonies, the pawpetshow, the dance contest and the closing ceremonies. And in three of those four events, there were no chairs for the audience, and I ended up sitting on the floor.

Now, you can make all the jokes about me being old and fat, but sitting on a cold concrete floor for an hour or longer is not just uncomfortable, but literally a pain in the ass. And my back. And my legs. I nearly walked out of the dance compo after the third act or so, because I just couldn't find a position that either didn't hurt after a minute, or made my legs go numb. Opening and Closing weren't much better.

Now, I've dealt with a couple of hotels myself, and usually, they'll be happy to set up any seating arrangement for any type of occasion, and they're usually also very quick - and unless you need to rearrange every room 10 times a day, they'll usually not even charge anything extra for it. So I really don't see why there wasn't any proper seating for so many seated events.

Really, guys, the fandom does not exclusively consist of 19 year old twinks practiced in the art of sucking their own ... toes ... and sitting cross-legged for hours :) I'm a 40 year old office nerd, and having a chair makes a big difference for me :)
