Another new topic! Lets get to know each other eh? Okay, its more a way for me to break in, but I'm not a very good convo starter in life so I'm doing it this way.
Basic question: What sort of music do you listen to?
Me? I'm more the proggy sort. I like Pink Floyd, Genesis (Peter Gabriel years- I'm one of those fans who demarcates what they like), Yes, Barclay James Harvest, Porcupine Tree (still listening to Fear of a Blank Planet) and many many many more. But I also like to listen to some electronic stuff. It just has the slight sound of militaria about it, especially early New Order and later Depeche Mode. I have more but I don't want to scare people off with a huge list! *laughs*
-
I'm very much into Metal, Punk, Industrial, and Hardcore. :)
Fave bands at the moment include: Megadeth, Rammstein, Zeromancer, Rage Against the Machine, Machine Head, Dragonforce, and AFI. :D
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I'm on Last.fm too. Diesel's reply reminded me. :)
I'm here (http://www.last.fm/user/graafenblackpaw/).
-
Dragonforce are funneh. I think it is a little Spinal Tap at times but otherwise a great band.
-
Trance and Chillout mainly.
Music with a good beat and preferably no words like Gigi D'Agostino (thanks to Big Blue Fox :D) or Sandstorm by Darude and bands like Chicane, Snow Patrol are my favourite.
Jean Michel Jarre's electronica is my all time favourite music, hes a legend!
-
I'm pretty easy-going when it comes to music, I'll listen to anything that's got a decent melody behind it, though I'm mainly into 80s AOR. I like a bit o' jazz and funk, too :) My most-listened artistes tend to be Tears For Fears, Scritti Politti, Marillion, Hue and Cry, The Stranglers, Phil Collins and Level 42, so a fairly mixed bag!
Btw, if any o' youse are on last.fm, add meh! (http://www.last.fm/user/heathcliff_2040)

Virtually anything, apart from top 40 stuff, shoe-gazing guitar bands such as Coldplay, rap and what passes these days for R&B. Most music I like comes from the 1970-1990 period :)

*plays "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zepplin for you.* :D

Now, that's a song! :P

I'm with Shep on this one :) I'll listen to pretty much anything, most particularly stuff that is pre-1990. Favourite artist is probably either Queen, Pink Floyd or Jethro Tull (primarily 'cos they did a song called "Bungle in the Jungle"; well worth a listen!)
-
Rock, random stuff from the 80's and Vocal Trance from 90's and 00's
-
I'm into 80's, most 90's, Heavy Metal, and, newly discovered, Power Metal (DragonForce especially!)

I love Tears for Fears. Political while still pop-friendly, which is not easy to pull off these days. Protest songs can look a bit too obvious or sound just too.. self-righteous, but a few bands can get away with being political without being too far in the self-righteous realm.
-
Aside from R'n'B, rap, hip-hop, trance, elctronica and their ilk, I like anything and everything.
-
Rammstein! ;D
-
Anything really. Though classical, trip-hop, dance, electronica, indie rock, anything else really.
See http://last.fm/user/robomilk
-
Anything that's played with instruments and sounds good to my ears, I like genuine talent to my music and I get turned right off by the factory farmed bands of today. Give me Pink Floyd, Queen, The Who etc anyday.
-
I'm a keyboard player and composer inspired by Jordan Rudess and Mike Oldfield, so I'm really heavily into prog, and not normal prog, I like things like Tangerine Dream, Rush, Dream Theater, Camel, Mike Oldfield, Jordan Rudess, and even stranger things like Unexpected and Vangelis and King Crimson.
Check out my writing at http://www.myspace.com/northernfox
I also like some Techno, but only if it's decent, intelligently composed stuff, such as Deepsky, Andy Hunter, New Mike Oldfield (Post TBIII, Light+Shade etc). I'll be perfoprming some dance type stuff at ConFuzzled too.
I'm also into Noise music, such as Early Boredoms, Yoshimi Yuka, OOIOO, Deerhoof, KYLIE MINOISE, TiCkEt, Saint Takeshii, and was a part of a now mostly disbanded noise band Aural Sex, which branched off to Pnoockekseets pnoocekseets, PocketFox, and YerMa.
-
Right now I'm listening to The Who, Jimi Hendrix and AC/DC. In a while I'll switch to something else, it comes and goes in phases ... basically most stuff apart from manufactured pop and opera feature on my playlist at one point or another :)
-
Hmm,
I mostly like any variety of metal/rock, good old 90's dance and techno, and most of the 80s.
Stuff like: Type O negative, Paradise Lost, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Megadeth, Metallica, Dragonforce, Puddle of Mudd, Guano Apes, Faith No More, Rage Against the Machine, Papa Roach erhm well I can go on for a really long time ^^
-
I've given up trying to categorise what music I like. Some of the areas it tends to gravitate to are synthpop, electronica (esp. early stuff), 1st gen punk, 2nd gen Ska/TwoTone, ambient/trance, and anything that's sufficiently silly to make me laugh. I don't like music-to-slash-your-wrists-by, particularly The Smiths, and the putrid excrescence that comes from manufactured bands. But none of that really explains what I listen to.

I'm sure I'd replied to this, but unless I'm blind and have missed my own post, it appears I haven't. Time to rectify that, I suppose.
A lot of my musical taste falls into the rock/metal/industrial categories, although I've also got lot of other stuff in my iTunes library. I try not to rule out a particular genre just because I don't like some of the music within it, although having said that, I'm having a hard time finding any modern rap and hip-hop that I like.
So, um, yeah. Varied tastes, leaning towards your heavier stuff I guess.

Within Temptation and Nightwish are awesome.
I've been to a Nightwish concert, it was so good!
Within Temptation, I like their early stuff.

For me, i like a variety of dance music. Something with a good beat you can jusy bounce to. I also like early electronica like Jean Michel Jarre's music (musical god).
I also like the odd bit of chillout that i cna just close my eyes to and relax. Chicane and Snow Patrol being two of my favourites and also Frozen Beach by Lange (ending song in the EF13 pawpet show) :P
