Discussion / What were the themes for the past conventions?

I'm thinking of an idea for a picture for next year's Confuzzled, but I need to know the themes from the past few years to make it work. I've narrowed it down to the following;

2009 - Victorian Era
2011 - Roaring 20s
2012 - Hollywood
2013 - Medieval
2014 - World of Tomorrow
2015 - Alice in Wonderland
2016 - Carnival of the Night

Does anyone know the themes for Confuzzled 2008 and 2010?

Discussion / Putting my Wii U console in the board games room

A notion occurred to me. Since there isn't going to be a set video games room, will there a problem with me bringing my projector unit from home and setting up my Wii U in the board games room and projecting against a wall? I'll be watching the console at all times and packing away when I head back to my room to retire.

Because my fursuit doesn't get out nearly enough, I'm looking to get a potential stunt double to wear the suit when I'm in various events or in the early hours of the morning. I wasn't too sure if this is allowed. Is anyone able to clarify this?

Discussion / Enquiry about potential fund raiser

The other day, I had a neat little idea for a fundraiser for Confuzzled. Last year, I donated a few promotional gaming standees (Spyro, Skylanders, World of Warcraft, and Mario and Sonic), and, if I remember correctly, didn't do too bad to raise money when being auctioned off.

So I figured I would do this again and donate a new standee, and then I had a good idea.

What if I could get one of those cardboard standees for Zootropolis that you see in the foyers of cinemas? I've found a local cinema who might be willing to part with theirs, but I figured I should pop this idea here first, just so I can work out if it's worth going ahead with.

I was thinking of getting the subway car standee (the kind with all the characters in it, like Nick, Judy, Clawhauser etc.) and putting it outside the fursuit lounge with a collection tin, asking if furries could drop some loose change in whilst they pose in front of it for photos. Afterwards, the standee would be auctioned off at the live show (mainly because it'd be a little TOO big for the main auction room).

Would it be possible to do this? I just wanted to clear this with staff, just so I know whether to keep chasing it up with the cinema.

Events / Giant Jelly Baby Eating Contest

Just an idea that occurred to me for a fun event for charity. Three or more lucky participants (aka con staff) have to eat a giant 1kg jelly baby. People can place bets on who they think will eat the most, or eat all of it the quickest without throwing up. Raises money for charity.

I decided to check through my emails and found that Confuzzled had done the incredible thing and booked a cinema screen just for us furries to see Zootropolis. Given the speed at which tickets sold out for this anticipated event, I have to ask, will Confuzzled be booking another cinema screen, because demand to see this, in fursuit, will be enormous?

I've recently got a lightsaber replica which I would like to bring to the convention, but I know there is a policy regarding cosplay weapons. What's the procedure I will have to go through to allow me to have my lightsaber during the con?

University Challenge (Unifursity Challenge)

or

The Weakest Link (The Weakest Lynx)

Both would follow the rules of their respective quizzes, but it'll be a mix of furry trivia and general knowledge.

I remember stopping by both con ops and hotel security regarding this, but they couldn't find anything on the last day.

I am missing one brown padded jacket (gilet). It has a set of keys and an Emporio Armani ring in the inside pocket. Has one shown up yet, because I'm wondering if I may have left it in the Art Show when I was setting up and in a rush to head to the Opening Ceremony, but couldn't go back in to find it. I hadn't seen it since Day One and that was one of the first places I went.

Feedback / Confuzzled 2015 Pros and Cons

This year was a pretty good years in terms of attendance and money raised for the charity, and it felt a good year for me, since I got more involved with things. But here are things that stuck out for me;

+The variety of gaming events - Normally, we're limited to just a Smash Bros and maybe a Mario Kart event, but this year saw a few more things show up, which was very welcome.

+New function spaces - In order to make better use of the venue during a rather busy time, the convention had adopted new function spaces. These function spaces were really nice and I do hope we get to use a lot of them again.

+The inclusion of a Thai Food bar in the lobby - I know this was more the hotel's doing, but it meant we had another exotic cuisine to eat which was both tasty and very reasonable.

+TWO arcade machines - I see Confuzzled has noticed how popular the machines are and can swap between the games. Might I suggest a schedule or a system where people can vote for which games can be put on.

-The absence of a dedicated video game room - This one was a bit of a bummer for me, because it gives me somewhere to hang out in the evenings. I understand that staff and crew were very thinly spread, but hopefully, next year would still be good.

-Confuzzled TV - In theory, a very decent concept; in practise, very messy. The PawPets show had such awful sound quality and on the auction, the picture was constantly flickering and hen just cut out along with the sound. I know this was a prototype round, but hopefully this could be improved next year.

-Distribution of events - This was something that I noticed last year; a lack of panels in the latter half of the con (if we place the parade to be the midpoint). Monday was very empty in comparison to previous days. I know the first few days are the ones people want to go to, but a few more events would be nice on the Monday.

-The lifts - The scourge of "Out of Service" struck again this year. The traffic for the lifts was always in demand, which made trying to catch one very annoying, and a lot of guests thought so too (I noticed a number of the times the lifts would stop at floors with no one waiting, probably because they took the stairs).

Personal Praise - As always, the con staff did and amazing job and I was particularly pleased with how the theme was implemented into stuff like the photoshoot and I cannot wait for the pictures, Malamutt always does an amazing job. I think the increased attendance rates just go to show how brilliant Confuzzled is.

Personal Gripe - I had tried to set up an event known as the Mad Hatter's Riddles. I had hoped it to be a little better executed. I know I probably could only have achieved how I envisioned it if I put up the riddles myself, but I didn't want to get in trouble with the hotel staff. However, the riddles were unevenly distributed and, out of 34, I only found 8, one of which was a bonus riddle which could only be solved with the use of the others and the rule sheet. And there was no announcement either at the opening or closing ceremony (I probably should have had alarm bells ringing the moment I heard that you hadn't printed answer sheets). Next year, if I run an event like this, I will start earlier, so it gets a con book mention and perhaps ask for it to be mentioned in the official opening and closing ceremonies. I understand it can be stressful running a con (I've had several exams right next to each other and have been chasing up so much in the run up to the con), but I felt really let down.

Because my event relies on QR codes and I also might want to blog, I'm curious as to what the Wi-Fi quality is like in the hotel, because I remember last year they were asking £15 for one hour.

Room & Transport Sharing / Possible Rail Strike 25th and 26th

I was checking around and heard that there is a planned Rail Strike for the 25th and 26th by National Rail over jobs and pay.

I feel this is important to mention now, just in case it goes ahead as these may be the days you would be heading home and if you're travelling by train, expect possible delays or cancellations.
