Off-Topic / Re: Cap Guns
« on: September 14, 2011, 23:15:02 »
I've never seen a cap gun give off enough smoke to trigger a detector, but as they are not permitted byt he code of conduct (as linked above) I can't see an issue.

I'm also pretty sure security would take a dim view of a cap gun being used anyway.

See the above post by Graafen Blackpaw that apparently permitted use of a cap gun.

I'm not sure of the desire to specifically want a cap-gun. Setting off loud surprise gunshot like noises in the con public spaces isn't going to make the hotel staff happy at all. I can only really see them being allowable during stage acts.

I wouldn't want anyone in the audience of any event I'm running to be carrying a cap gun. For the same reason I wouldn't want them carrying a rattle, an air-horn or a vuvuzela.

I'd have concerns over use of cap guns inside the hotel because firing them off might trigger the smoke detectors, which would result in the entire hotel being cleared of people.

Feedback / Re: The New Venue
« on: September 11, 2011, 13:37:26 »
I was as foreigner tourist on CF in 2011 first time and I was very satysified. I liked the venue, and all there... and I was looked forward for come again in 2015.
Now I will not come (prop.90%)
The new venue is bad choice for me as foreigner
- looks to cold with atmosphere - glass, metal (same mistake like EF did), more luxury but less cosy

It really isn't a 'cold atmosphere' at all, the rotunda in particular turns into a very nice hub for people sitting down to chat between events.

I'm currently researching and looking in to this problem of making sure flow issues don't occur in the crossroads area. Hopefully we might be able to surprise you!

Great, it shouldn't need that much more than someone that monitors the cross roads, and politely asks people to move on if they're standing in a huddle. (Rather not have someone shouting 'Move along there! Move Along!' tho) And asking people not to leave all at once after big events in the Paris Suite.

It's also a little unclear as to what the pricing would be on a Single ocupancy deluxe room if you stay the extra days, if you even intended to allow people to single occupancy book deluxe rooms?

This is not one of our standard offerings, however if you are interested in booking this then please contact our registration team to discuss.

It does look like it's on offer from what's on the website at the moment tho.

This would probably be done by the security team, who are constantly patrolling the hotel, though we can't stop people from stopping there at all. It's also important to note that the corridor heading from front to back is much wider than the corridors at the old venue were and so it shouldn't be a huge problem.

Every Con I've been to, and volunteered for, at the Hinckley Island has had this problem. Usually a few minutes before each hour when the indecisive will get to this crossroads, then stop in a huddle with their friends to take out their mini-programs to look to see which event they want to go to and where it is. Then it turns into a narrow roundabout as people go around them... It's worst whenever a big event ends in the Paris Suite, since the majority of people are going to head through the crossroads.

Hopefully you could prod them to have vegetarian sausages available for the buffet breakfast, since the one thing I do note from current reviews is the lack of them at the moment.

That, and posting people at the 'crossroads' of the two main corridors to keep it clear and avoid getting clogged with people, is all I can think of to make a good hotel choice better.

Feedback / Pricing on the website.

Just noticed that my forum user application was authorised a while back... So I'll copy this over from the ukfur boards...
The pricing for single booking is confusing. It says £25 extra per day, but then puts different rates for the additional days? I'm assuming that you didn't mean to imply a double additional charge for single occupancy on the additional days. It's also a little unclear as to what the pricing would be on a Single ocupancy deluxe room if you stay the extra days, if you even intended to allow people to single occupancy book deluxe rooms? It's not really very easy to work out what you're going to pay unless you intend to share a room and only stay for the convention days.

It'd be simpler if you presented a table like this, but in actual HTML :)

Code: [Select]
Shared Standard Room  Single Room  Shared Deluxe Room  Single Deluxe Room
Three Nights,
25,26,27th Aug                   £200         £275                £220                £295

Additional Nights
24th Aug                          £50          £70                 £70                 £75?
28th Aug                          £50          £70                 £70                 £75?

Sponsorship
Upgrade            £50

T-Shirt
+ Comic            £15

(Shared Room priced per person, and on the basis of two people sharing a room with another
paying attendee. The convention will assign shared accommodation unless attendees specify
a common room booking, or a single room booking is made. Shared rooms are two person
maximum occupation.)

And of course with the right pricing and policy if my reading of what they are is wrong.
