Feedback / Re: My Confuzzled 2014 Feedback

All very good feedback!

Some of that will be just a case of 'new venue problems', but there is definitely plenty there that can be improved upon outside of bedding in for next year. Certainly a fair bit in there that I'd agree with both pro & con.

Feedback / Re: What is it with the lack of chairs?
« on: May 30, 2014, 17:02:55 »
As it's not been mentioned yet, the limited chair availability in the nightclub for the dance competition was a capacity issue. It was either a choice of turning people away and having chairs, or working with the space we had, to try and get as many people as possible that wanted to see the competition in to the nightclub.
It was noted at the time and will undoubtedly be looked in to at how it can be improved it for next year.

Edit: And I was beaten to the answers as I was typing, hey-ho :)

Feedback / Re: Nightclub last admittance policy

I was also told I wasn't allowed to take my balloon into the night club so went all the way back to my room in suit (2nd floor right at the end of the corridor) came all the way back to see other people being let in with balloons.

Balloons should *not* have been allowed into the nightclub - this was originally checked with the nightclub staff who were concerned about potential damage to some very expensive equipment. However, there wasn't a written policy for that

I believe the potential issue with balloons was primally metallic ones as it was in a Risk Assessment regarding the lasers.
It would make sense to have a blanket NO so that everyone is under the same rules, as you say perhaps this is a point for next year.

I don't know if the ban was related to the lasers. It was on our risk assesment that foil balloons were a potential hazard that the LSO on duty was told to look for. I only spotted one foil balloon at the whole con, and it was tied to a suiter too low down as to present a hazard in the nightclub.

Certainly a ban does remove that potential hazard, though non foil balloons don't present a problem.

I certainly only mentioned helium filled foil and un-tethered balloons to security when asked due to the lasers, but definitely heard from attendees that they were being turned away with all balloons. So I can only assume a mis-communication there at some point on changeover, but that can be sorted for next year.

Events / Re: Space (Exercise) Balls!

As a suiter and someone who scouts out events beforehand to take part in, this would be a MASSIVE no personally.
People throwing massive, not exactly lightweight balls at my rather expensive fursuit head? H&S aside, I'd still not participate.

Bring your jetpack and moonboots for a weekend of retro sci-fi shenanigans to celebrate the future that never was!

So! It's official, welcome to The World of Tomorrow!

Time to get planning, how are you going to theme yourself for next year?

One final thing: why the censorship of the pictures on the screens during the auction? There are no minors at CF, and this is the 21st century: so why the throwback to the Victorian era? (Personally, I thought this was really offensive; and since most of the artwork I had in the artshow was of a mature nature, I would have been exceptionally peeved if my work had been treated in this way.)

This did surprise me somewhat, especially as I'm assuming the actual piece that was being shown around to bidders was uncensored? With it being an 18+ event I did find that a little odd, but I believe this was to avoid having to split the auction in two halves and to avoid people who didn't want to view the mature artworks being offended when they were mixed in.

If we can sort transportation, we can have many, many lasers! :)

Nothing handles like a hire van full of lasers ;)

We'll have to experiment with mirrors/previews, the light of a preview screen may upset the photos, but it may be too dark to see yourself in a mirror! Maybe a screen showing the last shot, with a blackout switch on it?

If brightness during the photo taking would be an issue from the screen, you could always have it with a blackout as you say, but have the live preview till you've struck the pose then it can be blacked out for the photo.

But definitely going along next year for some more snaps, especially if there's group opportunity ;)

most people wouldn't have known what was going on behind them! :)

I did have to stop myself mid-turning round to get a silhouette style photo from behind when I remembered that a) crew may not be able to tell I had my eyes closed for safety and b) others might try the same and not realise to not stare up at the shiny things :p

I do love that when I suggested a preview method that my head went straight to expensive techy methods rather than something as simple as a mirror XD

Is that considered a promotion or a downgrade? XD

Feedback / Laser photoshoot suggestions

Obviously the new venue will improve the situation in certain aspects but from a personal PoV, there were a couple of things I'd like to see implemented where possible.

  • Hazer - the smoke machine worked, though I personally would have preferred to see less actual smoke in the photos.
  • Live preview - posing was actually quite hard when you have no idea of what it actually looks like with the lighting behind you, perhaps a screen of some form behind the camera?
  • Less rigging - personally there's a little too much background distraction for my tastes, but I see this being rectified with the new venue setup anyhow

So Mr Lasers and Mr Photographer, can we see any Yag and Tom magic in regard to any of these? :)

As is the industry norm, most measures/methods should be available via http://www.diffordsguide.com/cocktails

Killing 2 suggestions with one stone here from a personal POV.

If people want more of a highlight to the 100% Charity items and would like to see them into LIVE auction quicker...
  • maybe change up the bid sheet for those items so they stand out a little more (to make the the 100% charity figure more obvious)
  • and drop the 'to live auction' amount down to half (5 bids) so they are more likely to make it there?
