Isn't the con technically over at the end of the closing ceremony?

No, as the Dead Dog Party is an official event. :3

Well I don't think peace binding the shield should be necessary. If you say yourself that you tend to get carried away, I strongly suggest that you tie down your sword yourself and refrain from carrying it when you're going to drink alcohol.

Just bring both to the ConOps office when you arrive, then we'll sort out any details.

You'll find the ConOps office in conference room 4. That is on the corner of "main street" and "london street". Just refer to the hotels map you'll find in your conbook, which you will get when you register on site. :3

Hello Hawker-Blue,

thanks for asking prior to the convention. :3

Due to the theme this year the weapon policy is a tad less strict than usual. Unfortunately it isn't really possible to say what is acceptable and what isn't as you would be astonished by the things people come up with. And yes, "peace bound" means, that the sword is fixed in its sheath/holster by a cabletie, a piece of string or the like.

Now to your sword: If I got you right, it is made of wood and only painted. So it would be okay for you to carry it as part of your costume. We'd refrain from requiring it to be peace-bound, if you give me your word, that you won't wave it around in public or do any other stupid things that could harm anyone or anything. I still believe in common sense.

You can draw it for a photoshoot or the like, as long as you don't wave it around. Of course you're also responsible that no one else draws the sword from you to play around with it.

So, go ahead, I trust that you'll use common sense. Please honour this trust by being careful. :3

One requirement though: Please make sure that you check in your sword and every weapon that you might have with you in the ConOps office as soon as you arrive on site! If you're encountered with an unchecked weapon, we'd have a serious talk. ;3

Sorry, but for multiple reasons, including legal ones, there is no exception possible if you are below 18 on the day of your arrival on the consite.

Discussion / Re: What's it like for a lady at the con?
« on: March 16, 2013, 23:22:19 »
Yeah, so...if a lady is not in a fursuit, do you interact with them?

Well of course! The european fandom isn't that much like the US one. :3

It is true that the male/female ratio is clearly on the male side but that doesn't mean that (if you were thinking of that) 90% of them would be gay or would't have any interest in meeting a female furry.

As far as I experienced (as male) female furs tend to stick together a lot, especially the artists. And since many of the best artists are female that should grant you some entertainment base. :3

If you're aren't into art(ists) at all it's always a good idea to hang around the bars in the evenings and just talk to others. Most furs won't treat you differently if you're male or female and the few that do will most likely act shy among a female. In those cases you could just start the talk. :3

There will be more than enough people to talk to and many of them will makebfor great conversations. If against the odds someone does annoy you, just grab a friendly member of security ;3

The bottom line:
If you are open minded and go into the con with a positive mood you'll enjoy yourself for sure. If you go into it thinking "waeeh, will be stupid" you will not. That's the golden rule.

If everything else fails, grab me and you'll get someone to talk. :3

Oh, and if it's your first comvention, you really should visit the "your first furry convention" panel as it might just help you to avoid common problems. :3

Discussion / Re: Pet Passports???

Hey Cebelius!

Your concerns are duly noted, but let me assure you, that no dog will spread any zoonosis (disease that can be transfered from animal to human) to anyone and fleas on a pet shouldn't happen too. If you are allergic to animal-hair you shouldn't have any problems either with very few dogs among a crowd of almost 800 people.

Many conventions allow animals for many years and never had any such problems, quite the opposite. After all, animals are part of the meaning of being a furry, ain't it? :3

Hear ye, hear ye!

Valued guest! Confuzzled is growing rapidly and while it is just a grand feeling to spread the fun of the convention among more and more people, this growth forces every team to increase to fulfill the demands.

For that reason the Confuzzled security team is recruiting new members. If you want to join the team and if you think you....

  • ...do speak English more or less fluently,
  • ...have distinctive social skills,
  • ...like to work directly with other guests,
  • ...are highly reliable,
  • ...have a calm demeanor,
  • ...are level headed,

and have at least attended one other convention before, you are what the security team is looking for!

The work as a security officer at the convention takes quite a few skills as you can see. But it also is the one team, where you meet a lot of new people every day, you get a glance behind the scenes of the convention and many other benefits. Though the biggest of them all would be: You help the very convention and therefore every single guest!

The duties of a security officer at Confuzzled include:

  • Being approachable for any problem a guest might have
  • Enforcing the code of conduct and the rules of the hotel
  • Establishing checkpoints and doing a few hours in total of scheduled guard duty*
  • Managing queues and keeping an open eye for trouble
( *Duty-rosters respect the officers personal wishes and shifts are spread over the entire course of the convention. That means that you will not miss the events you want to attend. ;))

Still want to join the team? Great! Just apply via e-mail to security@confuzzled.org.uk

Thank you for your interest!

With regard to Rizzos post I want to say again, that the food of the hotel was outstanding, regardless of the little inconveniences! Codewolf and I were actually impacted by the chiefs medical problem and the hotel even gave us a refund! When we were informed about the chefs condition I felt terribly sorry for even complaining.

Rizzorat: If you'd be so kind to get information about the chefs current condition and wish him all the best!

Additional I want to point out, that on Sunday noon, there was a very friendly lady accommodating Codewolf, Kage and me at the lunch buffet. I don't know if that is standard in the UK, but this lady treated us nicer than I ever experienced in any other venue before! I seriously regret that I couldn't thank her personally with a tip or at least verbally.

So, all in all, forget about my spoiled German stomach and be assured that I enjoyed the hotels accommodation very much!

b) The breakfast buffet. Admittedly the cooked buffet was rather nice for UK standards (I've seen far worse, like the Manchester YHA), but the Continental buffet just.... disappeared when the con was running, and magically reappeared on Late Departure day. All you could get during the con was toast with... erm, sixty different flavours of jam. I don't really like jam.

Oh yes! Seconded! After a very long and exhausting night of work I just wanted some decent breakfast, and all I got was heavy beans, poor toast that was drowned brutally in butter, jam and slices of ham, that was twice my daily dosage of calories. :3

Don't get me wrong, the breakfast was grand for British standards and as the good token German I am I not only DO integrate into the culture I'm visiting but even enjoy tasting something new. But after two hours of sleep all I want is dark bread and good slices of cheese and meat. (You know... Grey bread... that kind of bread that has a taste itself? With grains in it? ;3) No, I do not complain about the breakfast buffet which was great, especially since it was free for the residents. All I wanna suggest is, having a tiny corner with dark bread, meat and cheese for the species-appropriate feeding of us poor Germans. :3

Hi there!

I'm looking for a pickup or shared ride for myself and two other furs including a little luggage from Birmingham airport to the consite on the morning of the 25th. Any chance for a pickup? :3
