It'd be really nice if you could put some kind of statement on Accessibility and Photosensitive issues on the website.

Feedback / Re: London MCM Expo spring show conflict.

MCM is a commercial exercise after all and is bound to target the more profitable areas and dealers to get them in the space they have.

A lot of the dealers I saw at MCM were either science fiction ones with merchandise, costume related play items and accessories and the fandom places with the garrison and the like there. The furry hats and things seemed mostly to relate to anime.

The 'Comics Village' dealers tables had more than a few people who would consider going to CFZ, either because they have specific 'furry' content, or because they have something that crosses over enough. And I certainly think the likes of United Publications should be prime targets to get to CFZ as dealers.

Mcm is more syfy and anime than furry...... theres one stall with furry tails, ears, ect and a handfull of furrys that go to the event and TBH i dont think alot of these people even know that confuzzled is even running at all....
i must admit i didnt know about confuzzled till i was told at oct's mcm expo.
Is there really any really clash here anyway? It seems like a quite different type of event to me, and I can't say that any furs I know have any interest in it at all. There's a small amount of crossover, but it's like having a football and rugby match on at the same time.

As I said, there was a lot of people in the Comics Village that I'd like to see at CFZ if we can get them to come. It's important not to forget that the majority of potential CFZ attendees are not exclusively dedicated furry fans, and there is a substantial amount of cross-over, particularly to Anime.

(Also, I'm vaguely sure that the Carling Cup Final and The Heineken Cup are never held on the same weekend.)

Hi, nice to see you at MCM, and I hope you'll like the con!

I think it may well work out best as a Q&A/Coffee Moot, amongst web-comic creators and those that would like to start one.

Fair enough, and I can't complain on the move to the hotel I suggested can I. :)

But I do think there is significant competition between MCM and CFZ. Dealers perhaps more than general attendees, but the Fursuiter/Furry Costumer's are being drawn to MCM too. I did get some interest from a few dealers I told about the con, but suspect they will likely stick with MCM.

On the other hand, there has been a rumour that table prices in "Comics Village" will go up substantially / space reduced to exclude smaller creators in favour of more corporate booths. But I have no idea if that has any reality, and can't find any official notices about it.

We'll see what happens.

As far as i know the MCM expo have changed there dates to july next year (i could be wrong), so hopefully there will not be a clash.

I hadn't heard anything about this, and their published information still has "Last full weekend of May".

Feedback / London MCM Expo spring show conflict.
« on: November 01, 2011, 00:01:20 »
Over on the UKFur forums people have started to notice the conflict with ConFuzzled and the London MCM Expo spring show. MCM Expo has been gaining a lot of popularity with the costumer and fursuiting side of the UK Fandom because of the links with Cosplay. And while I had been promoting CFZ to people in Artists alley and a few exhibitors, I'm not sure how many will chose it over MCM.

Obviously it's too late to change things now, but this probably needs to be considered for 2013 and onwards. MCM's show schedule now appears to be pretty fixed, on the full last weekend of May and October each year. (http://www.londonexpo.com/faq/frequentlyaskedquestions/) And these weekends should probably be blacked out of scheduling for any future CFZs. I'd also suggest that it's might be better to clash with a US Con than the London MCM Expo.

Feedback / Re: Food suggestions

I definitely second the notion of breakfast pancakes!! I would also go as far as suggesting waffles too!!

If you're gonna have breakfast pancakes, they've got to be buttermilk ones...preferably with maple syrup. Nom.

Ew... Maple syrup, ick... Now, slathering them with slightly salted butter!

Also a reminder when  deciding what we get from the wish list...

Meat eaters can, and often do, eat stuff offered as a vegetarian option.
Vegetarians can't do the reverse.

A nice selection of vegie foods would be good. (Something more than 'the vegetarian option'.)

For the breakfast buffet, veggie sausages will be nice! And fresh fruit! And tongs that aren't shared between the meat and the vegetarian stuff! I'm okay with it myself, but others get picky.

On the budget 'grab and go' lunch offering, pizza slices would be good. Just avoid olives, it's one of those things that isn't as universally liked on pizza as people think! And personally, I can't have spinach because of allergies. It would be nice if they offered veggie burgers or veggie-saus-ina-bun as well. The blueberry muffin always makes a good option too. Again, Fresh Fruit is a great grab-and-go snack, and not just for us vegetarians.

For the cheaper 'bar food' dinners,
Bean-n-quorn chili and tortila chips is good, and a decent veggie/bean burger. Nachos or potato wedges, with salsa dip are also good.

Introduce Yourself / Guess I should introduce myself
« on: September 26, 2011, 12:14:02 »
Hi, I'm Lamar. And despite living in the UK all my life, I'm probably more well known in the US fandom than the UK one for various reasons...

I'm a submissions editor on the Belfry Web Comics Index, and last Confuzzled I filled in at The Gneech's panel on webcomics for the first fifteen minutes. (You'll also be able to see some of my colouring/digital restoration work on The Gneech's upcoming 'Suburban Jungle' print collections!) I'll likely run a webcomic panel again, if I can find some active creators who'll be willing to be panelists for it.

I've also been to, and volunteered at, other fandom conventions at the Hinckley Island Hotel before. I don't gopher or staff at cons anymore due to needing a walking stick to get around, but am happy helping out with anything I can do while sitting down! (CFS, bleh)

The fastest I have ever broken my "I am not volunteering at this convention" promise was at the 2005 Worldcon. While wandering the convention center an hour before registration started, I sat down on a chair.

They built an information desk around me.

Room & Transport Sharing / Re: Birmingham Airport -> ConFuzzled 2012
« on: September 24, 2011, 15:41:58 »
it might be worth pointing out that to minimise changes, trains run direct from Birmingham International to Rugby, which is very close to the hotel indeed :)

Not that close. A bit under 30 minutes by car, so not a nice taxi fare to pay, and probably out of reasonable range for a shuttle van from the hotel. I'd only suggest it for someone who can get a lift from there to the hotel.

Global Recession? What Global Recession?

Furry is obviously the growth industry people should be investing in!

Just checked to see what the registration numbers look like, and they've already passed 100 confirmed registrations, and a little under 80 waiting... Which looks like a pretty strong showing to me!

'Grats to the Committee!

Events / WebComics Kaffe Klatch
« on: September 15, 2011, 20:45:12 »
Edit: I'll run this event as a Kaffe Klatch, where we all just meet up and chat and swap hints and tips about creating web comics, and just get to say hi to other people in the Webcomics world. Unless there's going to be more established Webcomics creators coming, who would want to be on panel. I don't know exactly how many people I would expect, but the "How to make a webcomic" event had ~20 people at the last con, but that was a GOH event as well. So if you want to come to this, please do say.

Since I ended up running a panel on this at the last con for the first 20 minutes while The Gneech was delayed, and I ended up co-presenting a panel on this at AyaCon...

Anyone interested in a panel on Webcomics again?

Idealy, since I'm just a subs editor on the Belfry WebComics Index, I'd like input there from people who actually run webcomics. So if you do run a webcomic, and would like to answer questions from an audience about it, please tell me! I'm sure people wouldn't be that interested in just my giving lots of numbers and statistics and site design and production issues.
