Discussion / Re: Is vaping allowed in the hotel rooms?
« on: May 18, 2015, 21:49:34 »
Evening Jonne,

just to confirm, Vapping is allowed in the bedrooms.  Actual smoking of cigarettes, pipes, cigars etc.. is not permitted, unless you are specifically in a smoking designated room.

Smoking of any of the above, including vapps, is not permitted in any public space within the hotel.  Including, but not limited to, function rooms, F&B lounges, and corridors.  There is a designated smoking area outside of the main hotel entrance.

Many thanks,

Rizzo

Feedback / Party Suites - ConFuzzled 2015
« on: July 03, 2014, 20:54:34 »
Hi Everyone,

as always, planning is well underway for ConFuzzled 2015 already, and this year there may well be the opportunity to reintroduce the Party Suites, that were so well loved and adopted at previous ConFuzzled's.  However, before considering contracting these in, I would like to just gather a little feedback from people to ascertain if it would be a good option to consider.

If you would seriously be interested in a Party Suite, have had a one in the past, or would consider having one, please can you take a moment of your time to complete the following survey:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1UG7QMPcKnulbctd-99jPVo5TRRWsNpgFD-w2-QAfHog/viewform

Thank you very much for your time!

Kind Regards,

Rizzo

Hi Pye,

thank you for your feedback, as always, it is very much appreciated, and goes towards us helping improve on things.  I will myself of course aim my responses back towards the Venue side of things:

  • Were there any particular areas that you felt were poorly lit?  If you can give me some locations, this is something obviously I can speak to the hotel about and see if there are any ways we can consider improving this in future years.
  • Unfortunately, the rain was a big downer, and did prevent people enjoying the outside space that there was.  We did hire in picnic benches but largely, they went unused.  The outside space in comparison to the Hinckley is lacking, and of course, its something we loved about the old venue, but sadly, it just does not have the function space we require to host our event anymore, and its regretably, outside space is something we have had to give up in favour of rooms and event space.  Hopefully next year the weather will be better, so that more people can venture outside around the lake
  • The hotel were reactive on prices.  I did advise that coke was poorly priced, and this was changed to include a deal the following day.  However, their communication of this was not the best, and hence people were unaware.  This is something I fed back on a regular basis, so hopefully next year it will be less of a problem.  The hotel have a better feel and udnerstanding of our demographic group now, so will hopefully give a better price break that allows them to make their money through volume of sales instead of margin per item.
  • I feel the feedback in the Westminster is going to be back and forth.  Personally I never once had a bad experience.  The wedges were cold, and this was fed back, and I have made suggestions already for the following year on how to improve this.  However, I think its down to personal tastes and expectations as to whether people enjoyed the food or not.  I felt the offering was correct for our demographics, but delivery was perhaps lacking
  • The bar service was fed back every single day to the hotel.  This was down to I feel a lack of understanding of how our event flows, and the style of service being very different to that of usual corporate delegates.  It wasnt down to a lack of communication on our part, but I feel under prepared by the hotel.  However, I say that with no view of negativity, as I feel they did their very best with the resources at hand, but its something that very much needs addressing for next year.  One view of extending the bar into the Library, which is space that no one would have seen during CFz, is already under way
  • We did not have exclusive use of the hotel, so unfortunately having guests cross over is unavoidable.  On the most part, this was not an issue at all, and other guests appeared to be having a great time.  Of course there are other high profile Hilton Honours guests that will always have a certain expectations of level of service, and our convention conflicts with this.  These guests did have exclusive use areas of the hotel where our convention did not spill into, so the hotel did make provisions for it, but it was inevitable there would be some negative cross over.  This is of course for the hotel to address.  It did sour the experience for some of our attendees but on the most part, was adequetly handled.

I feel likewise, given that this was the first year, there are plenty of ways to address the issues at hand.  I feel given the scale of the event and the size of the hotel, the ones mentioned are not huge, and for a first year, they have given us the best experience we could have hoped for, indeed far supassing my own expectations.  I am glad people had a good time, and I hope that next year, with experience under their belt, and even better experience overall will be delivered.

Sorry to be a bit wordy! :P wanted to cover all elements

Discussion / Re: Smoking outside the hotel entrance
« on: May 30, 2014, 10:30:15 »
This was indeed a bone of contention from my part especially, since indeed it was fed back on multiple occasions both during feedback sessions and to the night managers.  It was annoying, and as someone who detests smoking, I did not like having to walk through a cloud of it coming into the hotel.  However, and as Matt already mentioned, this is something they struggle with all year round.

We did have the hotel hire in a gazebo for the event, but given the weather, I think this is why most people gravitated towards the entrance.  It’s something that will be addressed for next year, as it also makes it very unpleasant for fursuiters, given that their suit will just absorb the smell of the smoke should they wish to go outstand for 'fresh' air.

Thank you for the feedback. It’s much appreciated.

Feedback / Re: What is it with the lack of chairs?
« on: May 30, 2014, 10:26:52 »
Hi Cheetah,

Thank you for the feedback, and of course apologies that it is something that has given you a little bit of a negative impression of the overall fantastic weekend experience.

As Ralli has already mentioned on one occasion, the main reason for there being no chairs in the opening or closing ceremony were to accommodate quick 'get in' and 'get out' turn abounds.  This year we were up against some logistical challenges in regards to vacating the room in time.  In the instance of getting out of the Monarch in time after the closing ceremony, and as was briefly mentioned by Matt during the event, we would face very heavy fines if we were late given that there was an inbound event the next day.  As this was our first year at the Hilton, and using a contractor to assist with build and deconstruction, we brought the closing ceremony forward as a trial.  Now that we know it went very well, and was very quick, next year we can reconsider the time of the event, as well as the set up.

With regards to the opening ceremony, the decision to not have seating was based on a very quick turnaround from Theatre to Cabaret for the pub quiz.  However again, now that we know how quickly we can turn a room around with all hands on deck, its once again something we can re-consider for the following year.

As for the pawpet show, unfortunately I didn’t personally see this event, so am unsure how subscribed it was, but if you ended up sitting on the floor, it does sound like we need to look at addressing this issue for the following year.  Many thanks for feeding it back.

Thank you again, and sorry once more for the fact you ended up on the floor.  With bad knees and a back, I know exactly what you mean about being an old, fragile furry :D

As promised, head chef has responded to confirm that only vegetarian hard cheese will be used throughout the convention, so there should be no concerns.  However, if you are still uncertain, please always feel free to ask your waiter, or alternatively, you can request your food without cheese.

Many thanks,

Events / Re: Some last Few Questions
« on: May 19, 2014, 08:26:22 »
Hi MorbiusMonster,

Quick replies for you

1.  We always have small sewing stations but nothing extensive. Largely what turns up is as a result of donations from other attendees.  Suggest you bring your own supplies in addition if you are concerned so as to avoid disappointment.

2.  You will need to speak to reception about this.  The convention do not have a vacuum, so you will need to borrow one from housekeeping.

3.  Suggest you direct this question towards the Art Show team.  dealersdenandart@confuzzled.org.uk

4. I'm pretty sure chocolate chip would never go amiss ;)

Cheers,

Rizzo

Events / Re: What is Fursuit Fiasco?
« on: May 16, 2014, 21:58:35 »
Fursuit Fiasco is equivilant to the Olympics... but with fursuits!  Its a free for all event whom have fursuits.  Its meant to be visually fun for observing attendess, whilst a calamity of games for those taking part.  As a forewarning, for new fursuiters, this can be quite energetic.  Know your limitations, and do not over exert yourself.

Fursuit badge submissions are now closed Im afraid.  They were announced on all the regular social mediums that we use for communications.  Best option is to ensure you sign up to our news feeds, twitter account, and monitor the forums regularly.

Hi Aurora,

there is a concierge desk in reception that you can leave luggage with.  Bear in mind that its customary to often tip people on concierge, so might be advisable to have some loose change handy.

Cheers,

Rizzo
