Room signs?
« on: March 26, 2014, 15:52:18 »
Are we allowed room signs in the hotel this year?
As we have to share the hotel with the general public i wasn't 100% sure, or as its a new hotel perhaps the hotel themselves dont want room signs up because of the possible damage to the doors?

Don't use ductape or the like... it does remove paint. The safest thing is always blue tac or white tac.
Warning: Do not expose to shiny things.

Would never dream of using ANY type of tape to hold them up myself, but i was wondering as we dont have the hotel to ourselfs this year and what the hotels say is on it.

Yes you can, but the hotel have very specific policies about what you can use to hang them, and attendees will be liable for any damage caused to the door.

Quote
At no time will any collateral be allowed to be stuck to our walls or windows using products such as
sticky tape, Velcro, glue, double sided sponge tape, nails, pins or tacks. This list is not exhaustive.
The use of blue
or white tack must be agreed prior to the event.

This has already been agreed with the hotel.

I saw a photo from this year's FWA of a door after someone had taken off the sign they'd stuck to it using tape- some people are complete idiots.

Just as a friendly note: Security will do walks around the hotel occasionally and if a room-sign is offensive or otherwise inappropriate for public, we'll remove it carefully and hand it back to the owner with a friendly word. :3

Generally room signs are a great thing about a convention and at EF, security actually awards a price for the coolest door sign! Just make sure that you don't use suggestive/adult imagery and use only blue-/white-tac please. :3

We're looking forward to your creative door decorations!

Is there a maximum size of room sign allowed? All previous times I've used A4, but I have a 16" by 20" poster size, which is a bit bigger, so can I have THAT on my door?

There is no size limit, as long as you only decorate your door. :3

Indeed, the hotel are already aware of at least 1 attendee that intends to cover their entire door!  As long as the door number and the peep hole are on display at all times, go right ahead!
